The Road Less Traveled.

Post by John M »

We have run away from home, again!
I had a good fishing trip to the Goodrabidgee river at Wee Jasper, more years ago than I care to admit, have been promising myself a return trip for many years, and decided to head off, however we cannot rush these things so have to extend the trip a little, taking various deviations along the way.
Thought this morning we might head from Ballina area up through Grafton and towards Tenterfield, intending to look at a few camp sites along the way, National Parks appear to have done their usual trick and closed all Campsites.
We haven't traveled that way before and thought it was worth a look, have had a look won't go that way again the road would give a snake a sore back and then to top it off the put 45 kph corners on the uphill sections or the bend at the bottom, so you have no chance of getting a run at any of the climbs, the outside temp was hot enough to make the bitumen stick to the tyres, and for the first time the temperature gauge, in the bus, crept up towards the hot point, it seemed like we were stuck in third with the odd excursion into second.
I now know why it is the road less traveled, though the scenery when I could look around, was spectacular and as always the trip, was worth the effort, but a few more ponies would certainly be an asset to any one contemplating the trip as would some cooler air over the radiator.
We are camped overnight at Bluff Rocks rest area 9km south of Tenterfield and the temp is down to 35 deg with a slight breeze blowing.

Could you have found a more roundabout way to get from Ballina to Tenterfield? You need to try the run up from Urunga area through Bellingen to Dorrigo next, the trip down requires good brakes and a lot of patience so up might be the go. Some great sites up around there though and the scenery on that road is pretty good as well.
Any chance you may be dropping by on your way through?

We actually stopped over night at Wardell rest area, (among the roosters) and decided that it might be a lot nicer travelling to get off the highway, punched Casino into the GPS and let it take us there, a very interesting and scenic drive that far, through what had been dairy country in the past, the roads though narrow and though the grass was growing through the bitumen in places, were quite good, the trouble didn't really start until after we left Casino for Tenterfield, via the Bruxner Hwy.
Beau is handling the hot weather quite well, though his water intake has increased markedly as has our own.

Thanks John, very similar to our layout, guess there are only so many ways to do a bus interior isn't there? Hi Beau :)

As you said Dot, there are only so many ways a box can be aligned, without major alterations, we like what we have, and accept the limitations for what they are, yes, we would like more power, more room, etc. but only if it could be fitted into the same size package, and all available at the same price we got this one but then the TARDIS has already been taken, hasn't it.

I wanted an open plan look so avoided the corridor look and overhead cupboards down each side.
