Dee can you tell us which park you are managing?
Is it the one near the town centre on the foreshore or the Queens Beach one? Or another one?
Bob & Bev will be excited to hear about the redclaw! Any proper fish being caught?
Hope your finger heals quickly or Greg will have to start wearing his pink apron...........

Dot he is fully informed. We are trying to avoid the need to remove the screw in the finger, and all,the issues that would come after that. And the antibiotics weren't doing anything....I now am on Staphylex 500 which is fluclozacillin. Plus naproxen.

We'll be caretaking a housing estate, Bruce. But they don't have a house for us yet so we have to stay put in the caravan park.....and we're staying right near the golf course a short walk from the beach.

More updates coming......

Cheers

Oops and Greg threw back some small perch. And the guy that was catching the redclaw was using chicken drumsticks as bait....

Also went to see the doctor this morning, he said to keep on with the drugs, and that I'm good for another 20,000 kms! The way we travel that doesn't give me long :(

OK at Dot's request I am updating those of you that are interested in what we are doing!

We are still in Bowen, despite all the nasty stuff that's gone on - and now it's quietened down and we actually have a doddle of a job most of the time - so we have a life at last - again! The ghastly Century 21 - Bowen woman (Kylie Moss) is still trying her best to get rid of us, we know why now, and it ain't gonna happen - not until we are ready.

So in the meantime - we've bought a house in Collinsville, it's an old but sturdy Queenslander, and we plan to 'do it up' while we still have the job in Bowen, which could be six months, it could be 18 months. It has a large plot of land, and it's virtually a blank canvas, - the downstairs has been enclosed and apparently the old lady that lived here only used the downstairs bit for the last four years of her life - and the house has been on the market for 2 years (starting price was $240K, sold to us for $65K - the mining slump). It has a huge open carport, enough to take two cars, a caravan, a camper trailer, and plenty of room for visiting RVers (except no one seems to want to come this far north). Upstairs is also a blank canvas, so we are putting in a bathroom and loo, kitchenette, (downstairs has a really modern kitchen). Plus various other mods. Outside we plan some citrus and other garden enhancing plants. No rush. House next door is for sale for $60,000 and the guy says we can have friends and their vans there if we want.

Lovely little community and only an hour from the Whitsundays.

I've spent four weeks in England recently, for a family wedding amongst other things - spending time with my ailing younger brother, catching up with friends, and family, and over the four weeks I was away Greg gradually realised he missed me. He put on 8 kilos while I was away. Vegemite sandwiches will do that.

While I was away I also bought a car - a little Hyundai Getz which I saw advertised and Greg went to check it out and bought it on the spot. Nice little car. Everything works. No doors falling off. No rattling aircon. Plus it's CLEAN. And gets garaged every day. Bliss.

Oh and Greg's been going fishing with a bunch of fellow Vietnam Vets and we've had to buy a freezer to keep the fish - generally mackeral - that he's catching. So of course he started to think that maybe HE should have a boat, too. I found just the one - (that's me, looking in the local Facebook Sell Buy and Swap pages), nice little boat, all I know is it's a green sort of colour, and has a bimny (thing that keeps the sun off you), and looks fairly safe. So he's gone and got his boat licence, and is getting all the safety equipment together, and we'll be off in it for a look around the local islands. I took a girlfriend on a one day cruise in the Whitsundays, last week, very commercialised, but a good taste of the islands. Whitehaven Beach was nice, but we had to wear stinger suits to swim in the water (which we did), but it does spoil the fun rather. Plus I have seen just as good beaches in SA and Victoria, but there ya go. And the poor old reef is dying out where the boats go for the reef snorkelling, - but at least the boats are not allowed to go anywhere else, so tourists can't stand on the reef anywhere else and kill it. Still lots of colourful fish, but we're told the reef out WA way is far healthier.

Once this diabolical contract in Bowen finishes, we plan to spend time heading off again - not sure whether we will buy another caravan or what. But I still yearn for the outback, and to see the West Coast, so we will get housesitters and head off for 3-5 months at a time, much like George and Dot do, and get that travel bug out of my system. I must admit that I've found Bowen an easy place to settle, and have joined a Tai Chi group, the Art Society ($35 for the year and you get a key and can use the facilities whenever you like), we have a group get together on a Sunday arvo called "Sunday Sippers" between 4 and 6 when prices at the pub are at Happy Hour prices, plus I'm getting my health sorted out - have to have another ear op at some point, and have trigger finger, but all other bits and pieces are in good working order, in fact all is normal except a slightly raised blood sugar level (but down 2 points since last test).

Oh and we now have three dogs. Two labradoodles, that are now nearly 2 years old, and an absolute delight, and now we have Charlie, the toy/mini poodle, who is beginning to settle and become less frenetic, probably because he now has no balls, - he's just 8 months old so still thinks he's boss. Dot - you'd love him! he is a lap dog that I can actually have on my lap!

I've been watching the goings on on here - and look forward to reading more about all the exciting things everyone is doing (or not doing!). Miss you guys.... and it'll be a wee while before we can be around your part of the world but we still think of you!

Be well, be happy, and don't sweat the small stuff!

hugs from Dee (Greg is at the boozer) xxx
