Wasn't sure which section to put this in, so settled for here .
Admin. if you prefer it somewhere else , please just move it
I'm buying a diesel heater online. Getting in early for winter.
Used a canister heater last few years. But bitting the bullet this year.
A friend who has insalled many diesel heaters was going to install it for me , but we have had a falling out.
I'm not capable of installing one myself. So I'm going to get it done by a professional.
So after my long winded beginning.
What ball park figure ,should I be looking at for. Someone to install a diesel heater that I'm supplying myself ?

Re: Ow much to have a Diesel heater installed
It really depends just where you want it, how many outlets and just where you want them and just how much mucking around is involved.
Are you sure you want a diesel heater and not a gas heater? The diesel heaters are noisy, they need regular servicing, they smoke and they have a history of failing to light just when you need it too. The pumps rattle, the fuel goes off in the tank over summer if you use a seperate fuel tank, the fuel waxes in the lines in very cold weather if it's not winterised fuel....... the list goes on
The electronic thermostats that turn them off, then back on flat out and slow down and off again cause the most trouble, the less perfect ones with simple low to high adjustments and no thermostat give the least trouble because the unit runs constant and burns itself clean.
The gas units give none of these problems, they are quiet, they are thermatically controlled without any issues, the light first time every time.

Warren maybe mention where you are at present and which direction you're intending to travel?
I'm sure there's more than one on here that has installed one.

Warren,
Unless you've already bought the diesel then listen to Terry's advice.
We had an Eberspecher (sp?) brand in the Winnie when we bought it & thought it brilliant until it started smoking... & then the smell - phew!! Took the Winiie to the Winnie factory - about 10 mins from us - & said "Fix that heap of shit!" They called back to say they didn't fit it - the dealer did - but, they offered to swap it for a Webasto & got a great deal $$$ wise with no labour cost (shhh). That worked fine for 2 winters then it also started smoking a little bit... Yes, we did the turn it up full thing for an hour to clean it out... it didn't... or something else was wrong.
The van we now have has the gas heater installed & can't wait for winter to try it out.

At the moment we are camped at Parham . 60 km north of Adelaide.
As we have Drs appointments over the coming weeks . We will be hanging around S.A till second week in April before heading towards Lightning Ridge, where we have friends who have an old mining lease 2km from town and 500m off the black top. We where there for a month last year. Then who knows but maybe around Glenriddle reserve near Baraba. Again was there last year then who know except for Xmas/New Years , we never really have any plans except to keep warm lol

Go for the gas one for sure..
We were parked next to a very expensive MH (about 20ft apart) and their diesel heater was noisier than our 6.5kva gennie and that is no lie.

Warren if you are really nice and seeing as you are near by (in Adelaide) would you like to come up and meet up with a few of the others from this mad place? They start arriving in a couple of weeks. PM me if you would like ph # etc..
