I've been spraying acres every year. One patch gone, another appears. This year seemed to knock them back pretty hard.

Well I think the problem Margaret & T1 have is Prickly Pear. There is quite a bit out that road. Shouldn't be too hard to knock that stuff over?
Mexican people used to eat it for thousands of years!! (no, not Victorian Mexicans!)

Re: Congrats to T1 and Margaret!
Goats are great with blackberry bush and lantana bush.... but none of that around the property, just lots of grass. Margaret has declared war on the prickly pear after she brushed past it and got the little spikes in her jump, then shared them with me when she asked me to fine what was in her jumper. Apparently the fruit is very nice but I don't know how you wold get close enough to pick it

Too much leaf litter to risk that method Wayne, even the weed killer mixed with diesel is too risky. I'm thinking along the lines of the steam cleaner trick, simply boil it and kill anything around it like seeds or bits that have fallen off.Coolabah1au wrote:Abit of diesel mite do the trick[emoji95][emoji95][emoji95]

What you need to find is a couple of Cactoblastis moths. At least that is what I think they are called. That is what cured the rest of Australia from Prickly Pear infestation about 100 years ago. There is a section of the Miles Historical Village in beautiful mid west Qld devoted to Pricly Pear and its demise in Aust. It is pointless trying to dig it up or poison it apparently, as it just regenerates. The larvae of the moth is what gets the job done.

Re: Congrats to T1 and Margaret!
Found this 1926 newsreel http://aso.gov.au/titles/newsreels/aust ... kly/clip1/ that was quite an infestation wasn't it, a winning solution, they must have thought they could repeat it with the cane toads, now that was a disaster. I wonder where I'd get some, I hate prickly pear. I can just imagine Dottie getting some bug infested prickly pear through the South Australian inspection stations and telling them it was for a friendsupersparky wrote:What you need to find is a couple of Cactoblastis moths. Terry, do you have to re-lay the bricks at the bottom of the drive or is Google street view out of date? You could get some exercise climbing the mountain at the back.
