I cannot see where anyone can say that my privacy was invaded as it wasn't bandied around - I just got an email because I have made that available. If you had not made your email address available they would not have been able to contact you. ;)

Regardless of whence it came I don't think it was a good idea to do the mail out. Seems some of those receiving them thought the same as me?
AMH!

I thought that it was not the intention here to advertise other forums?
You classify that as advertising?

I'd prefer to call it informing.

But whatever floats your boat Jim... click on the 'report post' !!

Hi everyone. I realise that email addresses may have been available to other forum members who where CMCA members and had joined that forum. What concerned me, was that many many months after the CMCA forum had been zapped, so no one could log onto it AT ALL!!! another group has somehow been able to grab all these email addresses and use them. I haven't been onto the CMCA website since the forum closed, so have no idea if my email address can be found by looking up my member number or name. There was no real warning that the forum was going to be shut down, it was there one minute and gone the next, literally, so I doubt anyone, other than administrators/moderators, would have had some sort of pre-warning which allowed them to start looking through the huge member list to gather contact names for people. It seems that there has been collusion between the people running this new forum and the CMCA headquarters, but I could be wrong.

The thing is, even if this is how that information was "gleaned', then someone would have to have been able to remember many many peoples forum names in order to bring up each and everyone's information. It would suggest to me, that somehow, someone has been able to get a whole list of members and their details. How can this happen, unless the CMCA has been forthcoming in supplying this list, or, as was suggested, it was able to be bought for a price from CMCA head Office. I think from memory, that was one of the motions that CMCA was trying to get passed at the AGM, for people to be able to get information of other members, if they were willing to pay a fee. One fee for over the counter enquiries, another fee for the info to be printed out and taken away.

I do recall some time ago - perhaps it was just prior to the loss of the CMCA forum - that it was revealed that the CMCA membership (I think) could be purchased for around $300. The info is a little vague but I'm sure of the amount mentioned but exactly what that got you is questionable.

A few ex CMCA members who were not aware of the AMH forum & received the email were very pleased to be called in from the cold.

Not sure how I would have felt if it had been me.

Sorry Jim, I can't see the link, can you point it out for me? There is no issues with the name of other forums etc being used, just direct links to forums who expect our members to sign up before they can view anything, that is rude in my opinion, but that's just my opinion ;)
