Ok here's a good one for you all . Tonight after turning on the inverter and the jug I stepped outside and noticed the clearance lights on the van were on . Not connected to the ute and only when the jug is on . Flick it of and they go out . I'm thinking bit of earth leakage but don't know we're to start . Any clues . If it's gunna happen it will happen to me .ok so it's only when the inverter is loaded I just tried the microbe wave and it's the same dosnt matter if the plugs are turned on only when you start the jug or microbe wave . There only just on very dull hard to see be interesting tomorrow when I investigate more

Re: Um somethings wrong
that would be a decent leak if there is enough to light the lights when they're not connected.

Re: Um somethings wrong
Connect the body of the inverter to the van body and see if it still happens. Many moons ago I had an issue that I reported on the old CMCA forum, with the 24v fluro lights on in the bust the LED lights in the bathroom came on all by themselves. If I stood between the bus body and the LED it would glow even brighter. Turned out to be frequency induced from the mini inverters in the 24v fluro lights, connected the lights to a grounding wire back to the battery and the self lighting lights went out.

Hmmm, Induced voltages and phantom loads can be a real PIA to locate. I would have expected that even the shoddiest caravan/ motorhome wiring would still have a decent earth connection from inverter to vehicle chassis and battery earth connection. Crappy earth connections are a common source of 12/24 volt lighting faults. The fix that T1 suggested would be a great spot to start.

Re: Um somethings wrong
Spooky lighting is not just confined to vans, we have a couple of those touch activated bed side lights, and every so often they just turn themselves on, for no apparent reason, I haven't been able to find what actually is the cause, but just gives SWMBO an excuse for going crook at me for leaving the light on.
Life is a trip, to be enjoyed!

That happens sometimes. I have even had front of the house sensor light switch on when I switched lights on/off at the rear of the house.
