Moving along with the fit out....
Does anyone use a Sinergex inverter?
I bought one second hand and have finally got around to testing it. And have realised it was faulty.
A small cap had dried out and limited its output.
It was also very noisy and buzzing.
I've replaced the capacitor and get full output, however, it still buzzes. But, not as bad.
I'm wondering if there is another cap which is partially dry.
Anyway, my real question is; does anyone have a Sinergex inverter and is it noisy when you turn it on or silent?
Thanks JD

Re: Sinegex inverter
Jon, I am not familiar with that particular brand inverter, but I would suggest that more than one capacitor has dried out. We use inverters, VSD's and UPS's in a number of areas at work, and I am yet to see any of them with just one failed cap. Do you have access to anything to test the capacitors?
Cheers

Re: Sinegex inverter
Hi Dave,
Yes, my multimeter has capacitance. The old cap measured 90uf. The new cap was 270uf.
The controller board is a mongrel, components on both sides and coated in rubber on one side. I might just tack some caps onto the others and see what happens. These are the little electro's on the controller board. Not the big electro's

Looks like you are on to it. I wonder if any of the other members have found the same thing with different inverters?
Cheers

Re: Sinegex inverter
Most common problem is caps and rectifiers only just on the limit of their capacity in both inverters and chargers, as they age they drop below the limit and fail, built in failure within the design, once the components are replaced with higher rated units they become reliable, so the newer designs have components that fail and take out other components with them till repair becomes a non viable exercise.

T1 are you suggesting that industry condones built in obsolescence, surely not!

Re: Sinegex inverter
I think they can actually run the requirements through a computer program to get the result they need, last long enough to make it out of warranty at a minimal cost with an acceptable +/- percentage that is within acceptable failure rate during warranty. Then the game is played that some will not bother about claiming a warranty if it's after say 6 mths, or have lost the receipt or couldn't handle the risk of paying return freight and maybe still not getting a claim. Change the product's outside appearance and even the name every 12 mths and get a second bite at the cherry, Chinese manufacturing at the $$ end of the scale. They can also make some top class gear as well, so not everything made in China is rubbish, but they have no qualms printing Made in USA or Germany or what ever on the better quality stuff.
They will product stamp after quality testing as well, the ones that come out better than the spec are branded with a known brand name, on spec with their own brand name and under spec on sold to distributors who will specify the brand name required, so buying something with a brand name doesn't mean you bought quality either
