Anyone who fits a aftermarket turbo to a 1hzzz will be lucky to get 100,000 km out of the motor before it go's BANG.

Sure, Plenty of turbo shops will take your money & fit 1 up.
But the truth is, They dont last long.

I didn't want to turn it into a race car I was just looking for a little bit more on hills. The import Coasters just blow me away on a hill, and the only difference is the turbo. I was told they had a 1HZt engine, looks like that bloke was mis-informed. Might follow up gear ratios and stuff. I don't need to do a rebuild yet.

Hi Sparky
Like I said before.
There's no such motor that's defined by Toyota as a 1HZt.

Later model coaster's (Around 1996 & up) came out with a 1hd-ft motor.
This motor also happens to be a "factory turbo" landcruiser motor.

The 1hz motor although a bit slow will give you plenty of Klm of reliable travels.
Start pushing it beyond it design & you'll have nothing but never ending problems.

Thanks for the comments guys. Looks like fitting an aftermarket turbo is a non-event. Now that I know the correct engine type/ designation I might see if I can get a crate motor. I still haven't given up on the six speed idea yet. I just need to do some more research on the ratios of the post 2001 Coaster six speeds.
Cheers

The 6 speed combined with a lower ratio diff would reduce the gap between the gears and the big overdrive ratio of 6th gear would maintain a decent cruising speed.
