12-24V televisions.

Post by Kelvin12 »

Probably come up somewhere else before so apologies if it has. Looking for a larger screen TV, (30" or thereabouts) that runs on 12 or 24V. Also video recorder on the same if possible. Any recommendations or complaints.

Dirk the amount of power lost with these more modern inverters makes it not much difference if you go 240AC or 12v DC in my opinion.
You also get a much bigger choice of models.

Dirk, you may find 12v TV's over 24", are very expensive compared to a 240v one. You can get a new 32" led TV for about $250 and with a small inverter, you can have a tv as big as you want. As BruceS said, they use very little power.

I use the same 350W dedicated inverter that I use for the Samsung fridge to power our 26" 240V TV

On our way to Birdsville a few months ago our telly in Wilbor died so with a final state of origin coming up I had to buy on in Winton. Price was ok but the telly was a bit bigger than I wanted, anyway when you need one you need one. The new TV is that low on power consumption I have to put something else on to keep the inverter from going into standby

G'Day Jon,

Thanks for the link. Seems there are a few low voltage TV's around these days. Lot more than I thought.

A lot of the smaller TVs use a 240V to 12V plug pack.
The smaller Samsungs do, and specify the input as 14V. I ave cut the plugs off and installed a 12V socket and they work fine.

The larger Samsungs have an integrated 240V socket, so not as easy, but hooked into the dedicated fridge inverter provides the same result.

Anyone got a Majestic one. Saw a 32", 12v with low current draw which would suit the hole in the cupboard. Haven't seen much in the way of comments about them on the forums. Certainly a bit dearer than the smaller units.
