Ok I think I have the position sorted just have to work out where the signle for the remote goes into the indoor unit so I can cut a hole in the wall I the rite spot . Got all the timber to build the housing for it . I did look at under the bed but there wasn't enough height to allow enough air into the top . (Why don't they make a roof ceiling mount one and I don't mean a cassette .) . That would make it so easy for everyone.

Would you hang it down from the roof or put it up through the roof Dibs? Draining the water away would be the hard part, where on the roof would you mount it? Got a photo?

The signal for mine was though the front plastic bezel, in the middle where the display is.

Terry's was just thinking out loud you remember hearing that don't you hahaha na if they built one that attached to the roof flat would be gr8 .
Yea Jon-d I found 2 things under the top flap you open to clean the filters so now I'm buggered again because we're I was going to put it I only have enough room for the exiting air back to the drawing board
Aussiejohnny how did you work the air flow for the under bed unit and does it circulat good I can do that but I think I would have to lift the bed a 100 mill

Using that idea, the unit could be mounted under floor and ducted to parts of the van. The problem is getting the cold air up and the hot air down from the ceiling to be cooled. You could do that trick with the fan forced vent of removing the hot air out the roof until there was only cool air remaining. The mounting method would work great on reverse cycle as the cold air always falls to the floor.

Stratification (non-mixing of heated air) is not generally a problem unless the RV occupants remain in bed or have stopped moving for a looong time. To best cool a rig the A/C has to pump cold air in, this forces the hot air out the top somewhere. Simply putting cold air into the top of a hot van might slightly FEEL better but its not really cooling things down, that has to be done fully from the bottom up and takes a little time.
Inversly if trying to heat.
Think of a short car drive on a hot day, the A/C is blasting away at your face which chills pretty quickly but somehow you still remain generally hot.

While I've only been testing it at home, it is noticeable when you get the cold on the feet. I figure the hot will then be 'forced' out the roof vents and the cool will slowly fill the cabin.

The idea might work, however the indoor unit is not IP 67 or anywhere near it.

Cool air moves to the heat, so a vent wont help. The advantage of the rooftop unit is that it will draw in the hot air at ceiling height, and cool it. If you point the cool air to the floor, it will help keep the lower air cool, as well as circulating and mixing the cool and warm air
