Well sorry to be so long in replying but the other bits of my life have been getting in the way. Haven't been able to locate the data plate where hopefully the engine data will be. All I know at the moment is that there is a pressed metal HINO RB plate on the back of the bus and there are six pipes sticking out of the injector pump. Capacity at this stage eludes me. This morning I located a manual on the net which appears to cover this model but is only chassis/electrical. This manual shows a data plate in the left front wheel area but I couldn't see anything other than the number 9293 stencilled there. I haven't got around to putting my overalls on yet and having a crawl, maybe later today. I'm thinking that getting the roadworthy out of the way will be the first priority and to that end there is a bit to do. The windscreens have numerous small stars that will probably fill ok. Probably get a mobile bloke in to do that. Some of the lights need attention, faded coloured lenses and a couple inoperative, low vaccuum warning switch (or something) sets off an alarm when a plug is reconnected at the base of the handbrake. Just lots of small things that I know about at the moment. The thing is that I now own it and whatever needs doing just has to be done. I am going to see D&G's mechanic this week. Maybe he can run over it at a reasonable price and list things that he sees. It would be good to have another set of unbiased eyes. The sales bloke extolled the virtues of the Victorian inspection system ie. four three monthly inspections or an annual. Just looking at the lights makes me think that their system is faulty, just check out this top clearance light. And if they don't look at the lights, what else do they miss?

Anyway, enough of that. Happy with my purchase and looking forward to getting it done. Bruce is there any point in renaming this thread as HINO RB? And Chuck, I knew, I knew, I just knew that you would see something there.

There is such a thing as lens tint available but I don't think there is any rejuvenating spray that will fix the light socket and missing contact the 3 mth passenger bus inspection in Tassie had me scratching my head when I saw the condition of the fleet when I first started there, more oil leaked out than stayed in, lights didn't work or wrong lights came on, brakes that would never have passed a genuine inspection, but all 28 busses had their labels attached.

But different now in Tas Terry, they've changed things so in the south there are only 2 specialty heavy vehicle inspection stations and they are very particular. Took my truck over the pits and there were buses lined up for inspection, talking to one of the blokes with the buses and he said they let nothing go through. The truck had a few small things which i thought would get through as they were not a safety issue, but no, had to be fixed.

Very different to when i put the bus through, they had a look at how the seats were fixed in, told me to use hi-tensile bolts and that was it

I have a friend with a Fuso, and he has done a great conversion.

His problem is that it has 18 inch wheels, and previously had great difficulty in finding tyres, and now, after two blowouts at the same time, cant find any.

I suggested he changeover to 19.5 inch wheels, as these are now popular and tyres easy to find.

Does anyone have any information on a source of 19.5 wheels to suit the Fuso, or 18 inch tyres.

I lifted the floor yesterday to check what was there and found a WO6D engine, rated engine speed, 3200rpm. I found on the web that this engine has a capacity of 5.75 litres (350 cu in) giving 145 HP. The vehicle Tare is 5840, Gross 9300 according to the info painted on the side, so a turbo would have been nice but we have got what we have got and must live with it. I managed also to find manuals to suit so I am happy about that, thanks for the offer Homeless. And the overall length is 9m. Still lots of stuff to learn but I'm not rushing in to anything. Something else I read that I didn't know is that HINO is a sub of Toyota. That must be correct cos the Toyota key blank is the same ha.

Bob, learned a quick lesson a few weeks ago... toothpaste will rejuvenate the tired lenses.

I have headlight covers on the Cruiser but where they bend around from the front to the side of the headlight there is no protection on the top part of the lens - therefore it discoloured there.

Grandson Nick, now in Qld, told me to use ordinary old toothpaste on a cloth.

It worked.

Yep toothpaste does work, what works even better is Purple polish. You might have to look around for it, I know Bursons used to carry it

Brasso works to remove the dulling surface of plastic car headlights - would you believe particularly some Mercedes Benz models from the early 2000's! Of course, that doesn't help with coloured lenses that are faded on the inside.

Even smaller than the mighty power plant in the Ford Cargo we have, it's a 380 cu slant 6 cyl. With the 6 speed box there's tonnes of grunt, but 95km/h is about it unless it's a big down hill run and you can select Mexican overdrive At least you have 3.5 tonne to play with for the fit out and the gear that seems to accumulate just living in the things.
