footage from a recent Florida, USA meet showing some lovely big rigs.

What staggers me is the amount of (or lack of) solar panels visable.
We really are a clean green country here are'nt we?

Dirk and I are on an American bus forum, they just say "I will run my generator and be damned"
They don't believe I have 3 Kw of solar to play with.
Liths are in a valley too far away.
Oil is way too cheap there, less than US $2 at the moment, that a gallon, not a litre

Yep that is true. And with out question that play's a role in solar's slow growth on RVs here.Busman wrote:Dirk and I are on an American bus forum, they just say "I will run my generator and be damned"

Re: Good 'ol USA
Could it be because diesel is cheap in the USA, compared to Aus. I've been on a couple of USA forums discussing lifepo4 and solar with supposed electrical experts and they don't have a clue about lifpeo4, they think they should be operated the same as lead acid and claim there is no such thing as a dedicated lifepo4 charge controller, when that's what had made and use. More people are using them instead of lead acid chargers you have to reprogram and still, have float etc settings, deadly to liffepo4.
Being a dummy when it come to technicalities, couldn't explain to them in the right terms, but they had no interest in what we were doing in Aus and seemed to think that anything but li-ion, or li-poly were any good and only came in AA cells.

Re: Good 'ol USA
Some of those rigs had 3 roof top rattlers and at least one unit had 4 of them.... never going to power that with inverters and lithium I'm afraid. They still have no idea about multiple head inverter split system air con or electrical efficiency in general, everything runs from a generator. So be it, a different world to Aust where generator use is frowned upon because of the noise.
Big rigs like that, all running their generators for long hrs but all parked close together, yet there appeared to be plenty of free space

Scenes like that are certainly not my idea of a relaxing 'get away'.

Re: Good 'ol USA
Not much different to a lot of caravaner's, who tend to stick to the tourist routes and congregate together in big groups. I put it down to the urban ideal of sticking with the crowd, they seem lost when they aren't squashed together. It has always amazed me how peole go to the same places for holidays year after year and it's always where the crowds go. Down here if there is someone on the beach, we go somewhere else and we have a lot of beautiful beaches, 90% rarely have anyone of them.
I also noted all the A/C mounted on their roofs, at first thought they may have been sun roofs, but on closer inspection, a/c.
