Got a quote today to upgrade the solar system, we have a 1kw system up and get 50cent back to the grid, when / if we go for the bigger one then the tariff rate back to the grid drops to 10 - 12 cents ??? what do you lot reckon?? :? :? :?
I reckon disconnect from it altogether. The thieving suits will be milking whoever is connected somehow. Better to battery up and use whatever is about to fill them.

Lucky you're in SA, Dot.
In Vic we're being offered a most generous feed-in rate of $0.06!
Given our expected life-span, it's not worth our while installing it. We'd never see it pay for itself. :(
Pity, as the house is perfectly aligned for it: 5deg off exactly east-west, which means there's a massive north-facing roof panel.
Strange that neither the original builders nor owners #2 bothered to have panels installed. The feed-in rate would probably still be $0.60/kW!
Regards & God bless,
Ray

Interesting watching The National Press Club ABC24 with Andrew Denton and the push for the bill on Assisted dying. His book ("Go Gentle Australia") What a very articulated speaker with so much passion.

Agree with the general sentiments Dottie. Leave the existing 1kW feeding into the grid and install solar/battery/inverter with the grid as a back stop. The 50c kWh will at least help cover the grid connection fee, you will mainly use your own solar stored in the battery bank so all the grid connected solar should earn its keep. As long as you don't fiddle with the existing solar they don't have any excuse to cut back your feed in tariff and would be open to a court action if they tried.
Those who are on 10c or less, spend the $$ and go off grid, it will really p*ss the power reseller companies and grid companies off because they don't get to sell you power interstate during peak demand periods and that is where they make the big $$, they would have to buy the expensive power generator company rates and then there is no money to be made.

I'm in SA too, we were late starters on the solar panels (moving house) so we were on $0.296 cents/kWh for a bit over three years. It's now dropped to $0.068. It was nice while it lasted.

I don't think we will be running the under floor heating in winter any more :?

Ray it does not matter if the other owners had put the solar in, once you change ownership the tarrif drops back to next to nothing.

Peter, do you know what happens with the RETs? The certificates.

Are they recorded against the house or with the original owner? I've never been able to find out who owns the RET's after a house is sold. (or how it works for that matter)

Seems a lot of the rules don't get followed?
In SA it was only supposed to be for your principal place of abode.
I know of quite a few beach 'shacks' that are only occupied a few weeks a year that are grid connected.
I also know of several sheds on blocks that have them feeding back to the grid.
