Re: Camp spots for the big rigs.
You would always want to "do the walk" before you ventured into a c/p in particular as I'll bet the owner would have no idea of the capabilities of a big rig. We will be flat towing so the toad can't be backed up and would need to be unhitched. I would think we would do the unhitch before hand down the road a bit and drive down to check out the c/p in the toad first then decide about going in and then ask about pricing. Have heard of some ridiculous charges, double for slide outs, extra for twin power points, extra because of your length, additional for a trailer if you are towing one. Think I would be doing the same walk in a camping area just in case especially if it was down a bit of a winding track into a dead end....with no place to turn around. One of the reasons I suggested a better description of the camping spots would help.
I did contact a member in the Wanderer after a published letter, who was a big rig owner and got a great reply back from him about his and other big rig owners experiences in c/p's, 99% would have been positive experiences which is good news, this even despite the over 11m rule.

Big Rig, now this is a BIG RIG
He had a Nissan Navara d40 STX in the trailer.
This guy didn't muck around.
The Clare CP can accommodate big rigs.

Yes, nice rig Russell!
Must be an Ex-Vet by the look of the 5RAR nametag? (Vietnam I'd suggest?)
Reasonably easy to back up a rig like that.... just a tiny bit harder than a car with a trailer.
Looks a little bit silly with that wind deflector (fuel scoop in my day) up so high though?

The rig took up all of his site and more, he parked his trailer (towed by his TOAD) to the showgrounds across the road.
His slideouts came out to the very edge of the site whilst his electric awning went to the other side edge.
People who parked in the next site didn't stay cause they felt claustrophobic.
Didn't get a chance to talk to them.

That's one of the c/p drawbacks being crammed in and one of the reasons why they would be a very last option for me. Why they have to jamb you in when the place is hardly occupied is beyond me. I see this all the time locally with caravans.

Re: Camp spots for the big rigs.
When we took our little bus for our first run to Kerang I got the cp manager (Phil) to do the parking as I had no idea of the site he had for us plus I knew that certain people might be watching to see if I cocked up. Then it was onto Taggerty and what a rotten entry that was but I did it hands down, around a bloody huge tree and over a narrow culvit then I asked a very special person
to park for me because once again I knew some others would be just watching to see me stuff up.. Got to be a few steps ahead of those smart asses at times
Once we are out and about I shall be doing a lot of walking in to check things out first, and will also be doing a lot of backing practice.

Good on you Dot that's the shot, plenty of advisers, mostly who haven't a clue and just wave their arms around and wouldn't know there left from their right. Always look around for a quiet bloke, better still if he is in a blue singlet and stubbies. He would probably be a truckie and more than glad to help out.
