Good evening all, just a brief report on my minimal progress. I'm disappointed with H&J as although I chased them up, they never called me back with a quote. I decided to start the outstanding work in between my social obligations with family etc and this is where we are at. The reinforcing plates job is done to my satisfaction, let's hope the inspector is impressed. The bus body is mounted to the chassis via angle brackets welded to the chassis. Unfortunately on both sides of the chassis they welded a bracket to cover half a hole for one of the missing rivets (an indication to me that the rivets were not necessary in the first place). Photo shows my fix. I managed to source a replacement changeover steering box and have installed the box and bled the system. I haven't done a road test yet but static testing of the steering appears good. That's it for the moment. Next job to tackle is the front spring shackles but I haven't got jack stands tall enough, so working on that.

Another little step today with the exhaust manifold studs. Close inspection showed that there was a little more than one thread showing in the head ie the stud had snapped off below the surface as was suggested to me in a previous post. A friend drilled two bolts with one-eighth and quarter inch holes respectively and I was able to get enough (very tenuous) grip with the bolts to allow drilling of one stud. The stud was subsequently removed using the removal tool pictured. Some more to go yet, but this was a big step for me.

Good morning all. The right-angle device worked well, although it's a bit 'gangley' especially with the long 1/8th drill needed for the pilot hole. The chuck is not part of the device and was purchased separately. They marry up with a hex drive. From Bunnings about $60 all up. Well worth it for the first stud at least, next stud is out of sight from above the engine and I need to remove the oil filler pipe for access. Today maybe.

Bob you can get short drill bits that are double ended and sold for pop riveting jobs. Usually a pack of 5 or so.
