Dot's problem.....

Post by BruceS »

Apparently Dot has got NBN connected but for some reason she can't use it!
Is anyone else having problems getting onto the forum on a regular basis?
I'm not referring to not being able to sign in but simply can't even get to this site.
Anyone?

We have the NBN at home, apart from being as slow as a wet week in Melbourne it does get onto all the sites including this forum. Our connection is wireless with Aussie Broadband so maybe it has something to do with the service provider.

People at work who have switched from DSL to NBN reckon it takes weeks for the accounts to switch over.

They have had all sorts of problems. I don't know the full details because we're 2 years away and figure it will be sorted out by then.

Bruce, I'm not on NBN but a few weeks back I could not get onto this site at all. I think it was just after you changed servers from memory. I got the impression that it was a Telstra thing because I managed to access this site from my work Ipad (Optus)

Yes David there were a few who had problems but I think it WAS a Telstra thing.
I only updated the forum software and the servers & their IP address was never altered.
Sometimes an ISP (Telstra) will flag a site as 'not there' if a requested page doesn't appear. Most ISP's simply give it a TTL (time to live) of a certain time & then retry. Obviously Telstra give it a TTL of 24 hours or so.
I think Dot's problem might be fixed by an IP flush & renew.
She is flitting between wifi on a dongle & the NBN & her laptop might not be dropping & retrying.
The weird thing is that she CAN get to facebook but nothing else!!
Could it be in her proxy settings or in her hosts file?
I might get a look on Friday if I can get back in the marina once this wind drops!!

I think it is a widespread flow on from that international ransom thing. And I think it is bigger than the authorities are letting on. I have a Woolies prepaid credit card that I use for internet purchases and I have been unable to get a balance off that since Tuesday last week. Finally got a balance today which is a bit lower than I expected but can't get a transaction statement until they have 'fixed ' the issue with their server. They have no time line on when it will all be available. The conspiracy theorist in me thinks it is because all the ISP's are progressively going through and cleaning up their servers and finding out the real damage done. But that is just a theory.
