After reading your reply I think I am more confused that Maryanne on this one Bruce but I will pass on you comments to her during our bedtime chat. :D

Her question though does merit some enquiry. Like you I am also skeptical that either Martin or Janette will enlighten us, but you never know they might surprise us. :D

Bruce, I was a longtime member (and Mod) on a forum (a website one) and one day during some political hoo haa or other, someone asked the owner "can you read our PMs?" To which he replied "I own this site and I can see every word you type" or some such.
I was going in to bat for someone during another round of hoo haa and the owner emailed me pages of chat room log to help me see who were really 'the bad guys'. ie: backstabbing the hell out of me.

Since then, whenever I am participating in a forum, I take it for granted that the owner 'owns' every word I type. I feel it is naive to think anything else.

This is just my experience. I shouldn't have said it in a thread about another forum, it was just a joke.
I could care less about the CMCA elections and should keep my nose out of this thread. Sorry.

Janelle.

All I can reply to that is that IF someone really wanted to get another person in the poo, they could cut & paste their PM conversation with another person into a Word doc & send that to the Mod or Admin.
I could go into the database & copy some PM's to show you but they are that encrypted they make no sense.
Like I said ... on that other site I can't say what goes. No one knows what software it is based on. I believe only HE knows? & maybe his wife?

It was confirmed to me verbally by someone who's name I wont mention, (only because they would deny it & probably seek legal action against me) but who would be in a position to know that Administrators at the CMCA CAN read members PM if they choose to. The comment which accompanied this confirmation was "in the event of a dispute the interests of the company would override the interests of the member who's PM was accessed".

In my view Terry's summary in this thread (Jun 14 11.22am) is accurate. It is a company trading upon it's only real asset, the membership, which it treats very poorly, but continues to get away with doing so by virtue of the ongoing membership churn constantly bringing in new members who so want to believe the promise they have been sold that they blindly deny to all & sundry any sort of criticism.

G'day Cuppa, well if anyone know's the reality of what goes on over there, it would be you. The number of members of 10 years standing or more is in substantial decline and no doubt testimony to the frustration that you have alluded to.

In respect to your sauce (LOL) stating that, ""in the event of a dispute the interests of the company would override the interests of the member who's PM was accessed". I think I might be very familiar with the writing style. :D

Hope you are enjoying your travels.

Can we stick to discussing the election?

Candidate 2 over there is too embedded with the old school, in my view. Candidate 1 has had a good go, so I would like to see new blood. Candidate 3 is full of good ideas and could bring a deal of enthusiasm with him for new member benefits. Candidate 4 seems pretty keen and would be good development potential.

I will vote Rick first following a bit of one on one with him. All for transparency and being accessible to members. Member of the Solos too, an often forgotten group a little out of the mainstream.

Sorry Iza but it was an interesting diversion. So back to the election.

I pretty much agree with your assessment. Candidate One is the same old same old. Candidate Two could be seen by some as a loose cannon. So that leave's us with Candidates 3 and 4, both of whom are fresh faces, well credentialed/experienced, and presenting good arguments as to why they should be elected. Having said all that Candidate Two will probably romp it in by a country mile. :D

You mention the solos and yes they can play a significant part. But the big problem for Candidates is getting their message out and perhaps even harder actually enticing members to vote. The numbers required to be elected is pathetically small. When the numbers are declared I would be very surprised if more than 10% of eligible CMCA members actually vote.

Bruce would you happen to know how many views of this thread are by guests, and are the IP's constant? A percentage breakdown would be good if you can provide it.

It would take a while to work it out but it wouldn't tell you that much because most people use an ISP that rotates IP's at will. (Thank God!)
I say that because if someone targets a person via their IP address & it changes every few hours it renders the attempt useless.
For instance this is a list of IP addresses just one person has posted from....

How often does this one 150.101.124.173 appear Bruce. I think it might be from Newcastle. ;)

This one is a business address and for the most part their ip's are static like mine.
