Old mate told me he was in court yesterday for a traffic infringement . Never been booked in his life before .
Turns out his wife bought him a radar detector on ebay for $20 . all good till they went on a trip to Rocky he decided to plug the detector in for the trip . So along comes mister plod traveling in the other direction and promptly turns his car around and gave chase .
Well old mate was not aware that radar detectors are illegal to use which said officer tells him as he wrote him up .
Now in court he also said to the magistrate that he couldn't see what he had done wrong as he thought that using it was saving himself from driving over the limit . After some smiles from the judge he handed him a fine of just under $500. So ok he thought just pay the fine on the way out and write this up as another experience in life, but no when he went to pay the fine there was another $185 for court costs. Not now a happy traveller .
He can smile...as he says what else can I do?
I thought it was worth sharing .
Bernie .
Poor old bloke, proddly thought if you buy it on Ebay it must be legal.

In NSW one usually gets let off fine if you appeal before going to court, if it is you first offence.

No Photos Dot Sorry.
When I left the missus the kids destroyed all my photos etc.
Even the scrap book my mum made oaf all the press photos and write ups.
They even destroyed my Dads photo album of his war service. Each photos was affixed with corners and had a description under it and on the back was a detailed explanation of where they were what they were doing and where possible who was in the photo. They wanted to scan some so they took them all out and when finished just put them all back together in the back so now don't know what was what so completely destroyed.
Did see some old photos at my mates funeral in March bought back some memories plus spent some time with mates I used to train and race with.
Racing is different now where they have teams etc, we rode for ourselves and often the whole race on your own. I road from either scratch or near enough in my later years so I was always chasing and most times I went straight past anyone I caught. We raced up to 100 Miles in a road event and my normal training regime involved every day before and after school and normal week was about 900 - 1000 miles a week so more than I would now drive the bus in a week LOL. If dad thought I had slacked off he would make me ride the rollers for an hour under his watch full eye and the strap when I got home (about 10 at night). I still had to cram school work etc after this.
Track suit in the winter was a jumper pulled up over my legs so not pretty.Dad believed in tuffing up. Used to do what we called the 90 mile twice every Saturday and was not allowed to carry water as he stated one day in a race I may run out and my body should be used to not having water, bit different to what you see on TV where they get biddens delivered all the time. Even in the middle of summer.
On Sunday we used to race up to 60 mile and then did the 125 mile in the afternoon. Even on holidays I had to ride my bike and they waited for me for lunch etc and when I got to the destination they would be set up.
Did Pirie to Port Lincoln in two days one year.
