Good job Bernie! Looks like you need to locktite them exhaust manifold studs in as you go?
Yours will go 33% faster than mine 'cause you got 6 holes ... I only got 4!!!
Wished this thing would run without the computer crap.
Didn't you get to that heat exchanger when you popped the pistons a while back?

Re: Bernie and Carols Isuzu fit out.
Those pit marks in the alloy are most likely the result of a caustic based degreaser attacking the aluminium rather than a coolant problem.
There should be timing marks on the flywheel to locate crank position for the pump timing and for setting the valve clearances.
The oil from the tappet cover breather into the manifold is always a concern in any diesel engine. Simple laziness on the manufacturers part, there should be an oil separator tank between the tappet cover and the intake manifold so oil can't be fed into the incoming air stream. This is the cause of diesel engine run away, the oil starts to become a fuel, the heavier detonation from this heavier fuel causes more piston blow by and feeds more oil into the intake manifold. The result is a run away engine because it is no longer running on diesel but rather running on its own sump oil. You can't control the engine speed, you can't cut the fuel supply and there is so much torque from the heavy fuel it's near impossible to stall the engine in gear. It's either a fast run up the hill till it runs out of oil and seizes or foot on the clutch and the engine revs till it destroys itself from either throwing a rod out the side or seizing due to lack of oil

Thanks Terry but all the timing marks on the engine are on the harmonic balancer none on the fly wheel .
I'm thinking of adding either a catch can or just as my next doors is ( same engine ) just a pipe straight to ground alar grey Holden motors .
What are your thought on that idea ? Which one .
Will know more about the oil cooler cover when I remove it . Knees to sore for more today .
Bernie .

Re: Bernie and Carols Isuzu fit out.
Make a catch can Bernie, just use an old plastic 1 litre milk bottle and drill a hole through the lid. That way you can just pour it back into the engine if it is breathing a lot. If you just drop it on the ground, then most of the time it will just coat the entire underside of bus and that only leads to more cleaning.

Good in theory Dave but up on blocks its easy to get to things underneath , the I beam stops you at ground level .
It could be mounted away from the engine near the air tanks that would work , easy access there .
I think a professional built catch can would NOT be noticed as much as a milk bottle during annual inspection ?
Bernie .
You better mate?

Bernie,
that might just be surface corrosion on the ally cooler. Is it leaking?
My pipe goes to the ground. "72 build.

Ahh, You need it to look professional. Go to one of the big camping stores like BCF or Anaconda and get an aluminium drink bottle, some even come with a nice mounting bracket suitable to put on a treddly, and screw a fitting into the top of that. I thought were looking for low budget.BernieQ wrote: ↑Fri Jul 28, 2017 4:00 pm Good in theory Dave but up on blocks its easy to get to things underneath , the I beam stops you at ground level .

And no, not really much better. Hopefully will come good over the weekend. Not looking forward to going back to work on Monday.

Bernie,
the pump mark alignment shows when it squirts. Not TDC.
The pump mark should align at 14* tdc for a 6bg1
and 13* tdc for the 6bg1t
refer page 6a-113 paragraph 6

Re: Bernie and Carols Isuzu fit out.
That can only be done when the engine is together Jon . As you know the timing marks are on the harmonic balancer and the pointer is on the timing gear cover so it has to be done when completely assembled . Strange way of doing things . Fly wheel timing marks would have been easier .
How do you adjust the fuel injector????
