Is it a disaster ?

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

I'm with you John.
Quite some years ago, not long after the Internet got going, I was on a forum where there was the usual scaremongering about the rising sea levels.
It was in 1996 & at the time we got spoiled with Windows 95.
I owned some land that was about 1.5 metres above high water mark.
Several on the forum advised me to sell it quick or walk away from it as it was going to be under water by the end of the century.
I openly invited all on that forum to come to a huge barbecue that I would put on and to be held in 2010.
They suggested sausages & steak wouldn't cook under water.
The water is no higher now than then ....... well OK, maybe a milli-metre or two?
I often wonder where those gullible people are now?

Of course you all know that after Flannery made a few squillions from his book, he went and brought 2 WATERFRONT properties on the Hawkesbury, much was made of it at the time

I do believe the climate is changing and peoplekind ( probably can't say mankind now ) is having quite an effect on it but I do get annoyed by the people that have turned it into a big business and are making a lot of money out of it. Also there are still a lot of houses being built on mariners all around the coastline only a metre or so above high water mark and the banks are lending money for them on a 20 or 30 year loan. If the predictions are correct they will have fish swimming through the front door before they are paid for. Port Lincoln had water close to their front doors earlier this year with their king tides. Still homes being built at places like Tumby Bay that is only about 1.5 to 2 mts above high tide. If the water is going to rise as much as predicted how much money will be wasted trying to hold it back until they give up and abandon places like Tumby.
Cheers John
How much was spent and still being spent to stop London flooding? What about the floods in Bundaberg and other places like Brisbane where flood prone areas had houses built that couldn't be insured yet the banks still loaned the money?
I made sure I'd have a house above the high water line, same as the workshop, it might not happen or may not happen in my life time, but why ignore the science and obvious warning signs that the level is already rising?

As far as people making money on hysteria....... big business ever since humans became smart enough to understand fear, it is the basis for any religion after all eh ;)
