That site blocks me Bruce, use an ad block and linux blocks their trackers and spam bots. Understand their revenue line, but it's the attached bots and trackers I don't like.

A very interesting topic to Terry, installed redshift and the difference is amazing. been experimenting with Manjaro whilst the rain keeps me inside.

Very true Dot, there are some wonderful old quarries and gravel pits which make good camp spots. One we visit regularly is in Sth W NSW, about 1klm off the main road, the turn off is almost invisible and very secluded. It has a spring fed waterhole which shut down the quarry almost a century ago and is a lovely place to camp and have a swim, the water is only about 2m deep, mostly knee high and crystal clear you can see the bottom and the little native fish.

One of our favourite on the go camp spots are the road maintenance clearings with the dirt/gravel pile and parking area when maintaining that road section is scheduled.... I'm guessing this is the same gravel pit that often Dottie mentions. Often there is a track leading off from these road side spots the locals have added to gain access to that area for bush bashing/shooting trips/motor bike trail riding etc. A drive up these tracks generally finds a clearing complete with the remains of a fire pit or rock circle where the locals camp out for the week end, perfect for an over night stop during the week, far enough away from the road to avoid the traffic noise and passing headlights and to remain reasonably hidden from anyone driving past. These spots are rarely listed but sometimes the actual road maintenance area is in Wiki Camps, so at least you can slow down and look for it, then cruise around I there looking for the track off into the bush. A Google satellite search of the area will often show the track even though it doesn't appear in Google maps.
I reckon a drone would be even better for searching out a great camping spot and how you get in there. Then a fly up the road to determine if the corners might be too tight/branches too low for a big rig and if there are any bog spots that would make it a 4 x 4 only track, nothing worse than trying to reverse back out of a narrow track with the trailer connected.....

as an ex-drone enthusiast I can tell you that isn't the type of work they are good at.

Shanks' pony remains best for a reccy, push-bike even better.

I've got one of them. Shanks pony that is, not the drone. My son has recently become drone savvy and we recently used one on a hunting trip. And to that end it is well suited. We had a great time and a bit of fun along the way.

haha .... I've got one too!
No, not shank's pony, not a drone but a radio controlled metre long speed boat.
Oooops! more like a luxury cruiser...
Biggest problem with them things is 4 hours to charge up & then 15 minutes use!!

Noticed a neighbour searching for their son's drone in the trees behind our place on Sunday. Still hiding and neighbour bemoaning the loss of $80.
