Advice please.
We have finally received the “NBN will be in your district soon” and the tiny writing in the detail, “Residents will have 18 months to be forced to join the NBN non-spectacular”.
How does one join NBN on the road? Which carrier and which plan is the best? Etc etc

Re: NBN and travelling
Tom at present NBN must only be connected to a fixed address. Yes it can be via satellite like many away from towns etc but it still must be a "fixed install".
Terry has it at his house via WiFi to a dedicated NBN tower transmitter.
Whatever sort of NBN you get via whatever ISP you desire, it will be installed by the NBN crew so they will know if you move it away from that particular transmitter.
At this stage all/any mobile Internet is via 3G/4G or certain satellite providers. (expensive ones with a lag)
Shoot this mob off an email & see what they say Tom?

Re: NBN and travelling
For 18 months now we have been mobile only. On average we use 1Gb per day data - combined mobiles, computers, ipad thingies, etc. Our combined mobile data is shared and easily covers out data. We have a $5.00 per month sim card modem thingy in the house that shares the mobile data around the house. For us the current cost of our mobile sims is less than our previous combined cost for mobiles, home phone and broadband.
I think mobile may be the way of the future for peasants while industry, services and public servants in their workplace will be optically connected.

Is fibre to the premises available where you are? Or only Fibre to the Node? There are a few towns where fibre to the premises is available one side of the town or even street, yet only fibre to the node on the other side. If it is only fibre to the node then smile and decline the offer if you have decent internet and phone at the moment, you can bet it will be worse after it goes to the NBN fibre to the node. If they actually try to cut off your copper internet service they may find they are in a rather difficult position legally, but even if they do you would be better off with 4G or 5G wireless than the Fibre to the Node available at the moment.
If you can get fibre to the premises then go ask Telstra if you can use that WiFi sharing set up that uses telephone boxes etc as hot spots. If that is also available when the NBN is connected by fibre then go with Telstra as the service provider. That way you still use the data allowance on home set up when travelling as long as you are in range of a Telstra hotspot and you only need to use your mobile data when out of range.

Re: NBN and travelling
There are a number of good providers that are cheap for NBN, we have unlimited 25/10 fixed wireless from mate communications. They are just one who have this cost and for me the serve has been excellent, neighbours got telstra and it is costing them over $100 a month for a limited download, they are desperate to get out of their contract, whilst ours is month to month and can disconnect when we are travelling, which saves even more.
On the road we use amysim and that costs us $40 for 10g and then $10 a gig, but never go over the 10g and for short trips, we just get 1g. If we are not using it, then our account stays open for 12 months and we can use it any time we like, or not.

I set up our internet to use Phon and Telstra air before we left Mandurah last April thinking to use Telstra Air for most of our internet service .
We're currently in Melb , F.T.Gully.after being around nearly all Australia and this is the first time we've been able to connect to either service !
Telstra make it sound great but being Telstra it isn't available where you need it yet ( maybe in 10 years or so )
We use about 15G a month for downloads and the usual data gobbling stuff on a business plan with casual disconnect for when we finish travelling this year ( or next ) so Telstra air would be a bit of a saving for us, if we could actually get it

Re: NBN and travelling
For the travelling adventurer, ditch the home phone. Who really does use it anyway? The only people who rang ours were pests anyway.
We have a Telstra mobile dongle thingy that gives us wifi interweb coverage for nearly all of Aus. If we are so remote that it doesn't work, well it's really remote. Kings bloody Canyon was the only place that we have had no reception on the dongle. After the issues that our small town have had with the nbn, I really don't want to join the bunfight. The dongle thingy is faster than our previous internet. So it's good for travel time and home time and nbn can find another sucker.
Good luck with your decision making.

Re: NBN and travelling
I am currently using a dual mode modem in mobile mode to the NBN. Am not connected to Telstra Air. No cable, glass or copper, is available in the local ground to connect to the NBN and that is not going to change in the near future, says my connection manager. Officially, my connection order is "in progress" and no one has said anything about not moving the box off site. When the box turned up, I powered it up via the power plug then WiFi-ed the lap top and tablet to the box. Bingeing big time!

Re: NBN and travelling
We upgraded our phones recently, and got 65gb data each as part of the deal. Enough to watch 6 h foxtel daily, or 12 hrs netflix on the smart telly. On this trip from Perth to Karratha via inland, we have not missed out on coverage at all, though theres been times when it dropped out while driving. I didnt even bother hooking up the antenna
