Sterling did you enter the menu and do this?

from manual, section 4.2.1
09. Zero current calibration
If the BMV reads a non-zero current even when there is no load and the battery is not being charged, this option can be used to calibrate the zero reading.Ensure that there really is no current flowing into or out of the battery (disconnect the cable between the load and the shunt), then press SELECT.

If that doesn't set the current to zero then something is stuck on that unit!!!

Bruce
Yep that’s what i did but mystery input reading of 0.16amp and 2watt still remains. Would be good to talk to someone at Victron but they don’t appear to have a tech support office they just refer you to the retailer you bought it from and then he is supposed to either solve it or push you onto someone higher up the food chain, difficult when you buy online.

Where are you drawing the current from to power the bmv 700. It should be prior to the shunt...

It is connected exactly as per the BMV manual.

It is connected exactly as per the BMV manual.
Just a thought. I take mine direct from the battery terminal.

Could someone take a look at the way the shunt/monitor is connected in this diagram, is this how you have done it with the neg cable going to the shunt before it goes to the battery ?
The bmv guide says the neg cable must come from the battery then to the shunt then out the other side to the consumers, so i have the neg cable from the charger going directly to the battery then from battery to shunt then to consumers.

Try removing that extra earthing from the shunt & see if you still see charge going in? I don't know anyone who adds that link.
Where do you live Sterling? There are members spread all over Aussie & quite a few are using the Victron BMV.

When zeroing via 9 did you remove both the earth wire and that going to the charger prior to doing so? I was getting a -.1/.2 amp reading which increased the -Ah reading. I set to zero as per the manual after removing both of those wires and solved the problem. Just to ensure yo have no current when zeroing, disconnect the Anderson plug from the starter battery.

Interesting warning about smart alternators requiring the additional earth connections. Spike protection in the DC-DC unit would be preferable [emoji6]

Anyway, is it necessary in this context given the subject vehicle alternator type???
