Wayne,

Just parrallel. (like 2 old mechanics lights.) The resistance of the globes may help change the PF to a little more neutral.


PF is the phase difference between the current and voltage waveforms.

the heater element is resistive. It would be a good test. (kettle, toaster, iron - they're all the same.)

Inductive are motors and transformers where the wire is wound around a magnetic core/material.

Terry I agree with what you say, if you're using an expensive inverter. My PSW inverters are cheap ebay ones and have been on the house system for over a decade. Had them when on LA, so as to limit the amount of usage, especially the kids. So the economics is assured and none have failed in the house, so hope to get another decade or so out of them.

The logic I use, is they are never taxed when in use, each one spends lots of time on standby or shut down. When we are not at home, two inverters are switched off, the only one running drives the fridge and freezers and using inverter fridge freezers, the inverters never get near their capacity, when in use.

Something not right there, if it is a toroidal transformer it should have very low stand by current and not hum, the old standard wound transformers hum and waste a lot of energy under no or very light loads. 1.5 amps @ 12v is about what the standard W7 3000/9000w inverter draws no load, the fan doesn't start up until it starts to work and get warm, they hum if the are working hard but quite other times....unless they are acting as a charger, then they hum, buzz, drive the fan and in general make a nuisance of themselves :lol: but they are as strong as a Mallee bull, can handle solid overloads for quite some time so they wouldn't have a problem starting up an induction motor.
Reading through the thread Native Pepper linked to from Energy Matters the writer mentioned dramas he had when first installing the toroidal transformer, turned out it was to do with the method used to clean up the wave form using the original W7 standard transformer and all sorts of other bits had to be added to do the same job when using a toroidal transformer.

sorry, this one should work.
Started the A/C by itself anyway yesterday. Just a 1 second buzz then away it went.
Fridge stalled once (that I heard) during start-up.
I will check voltages tonight, seems a bit strange

Edit, holds 242v, 49.8hz pretty solid
