Speeding tickets

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Our bus was in dock getting another engine fitted in Rutherford Maitland, the journey from workshop to daughters is about 35 minutes and 1 section goes through a small town on the NE highway, there are several speed zones some with cameras. I negotiated these without problem until the day we got the bus back, 24th Dec and bingo an expensive picture with double demerits 6, we were in the ute. Spent a week at Tamworth CM festival and when we got home yesterday another notice this time in the bus on the 27th Dec, more expensive same place and another 6 demerits.
I have written to the authorities asking for leniency on the first but that wont work on the 2nd, if it works on the first. The $$$ are bad enough but the demerits could cost licence and this becomes a major problem as we live in the bus.
Is there an avenue to appeal these things and get the penalties changed, ie get the fine increased to maintain a licence.
I did numerous trips across this road and it is a worry that there might be another/more tickets on the way. Got me buggered I negotiated it for 2 months and then 2 pics in 3 days.

Gary
I would challenge it, faulty camera, you regularly negotiate this section of road and doubt you would have made such an error. Maybe a thing in the local paper asking if anyone else feels they have been unfairly book around the same dates, a pattern may form that they would have difficulty denying was infact a camera error.

Gary, I agree with Terry ask around you never know, I would also write a letter seeking leniency whilst not admitting guilt.

In Victoria a solicitor friend 'never told me' that if you want to seriously delay a charge/penalty you can pay part of the fine about 85% or so by cheque about 3 days before it is due, what happens next is that they must then re-issue another notice for the outstanding balance, this can continue to occur at least one more time if you keep making mistakes ( old age can be a real bugger sometimes ) when writing a cheque.

They can not act upon the penalty points or loss of licence, because the matter is not finalised until it has been tested in a court of law, or the full amount of the fine has been paid.

This is only a delaying tactic but would give you time ( up to 6 months or so ) to investigate your options further ( retire to a south seas island? ) it also does not incur late payment penalties.

All jokes aside, Talking to a friend in WA, and the story started about getting his wifes licence renewed, The guy behind the counter asked if he had FIXED his problem as his had been cancled 11 months back ,he had been driving on a cancled licence and didnt know. They live in the van full time and paper work hadent caught up with them. $170 for 5 ks over. That could have been a big problem if there had been a crash,or worse....

Hows this for stupid... Last thursday i got notification that i had to renew my licence due to turning 75 on the 22nd of March. Said that i need a doctors cert and a eye test. This i did on the friday one day after notice right, I went to the renewal place with all the paper work. Said the shelia behind the desk "ok thats all in order can i see your licence" i hand it over and see picks up the phone and says " licence no so and so Lee" and puts my licence to one side, Gets out a book and proceeds to issue me with a paper licence. " This is valid for 3 weeks" says she.I say iam going to Aussie on the 7th Febuary I wont be here when my proper licence arrives in the post. " Get somebody to post it to you " says she. I say " I have put a block on the mail and it will be held until i return" "well" she says " should have come in earlier" I say "only notified yesterday" she says " ring this free number and explain to them at transit" I do that and find i am talking to a brick wall and give up in disgust.

I am sorry - but you mostly seem to be trying to help this person save their licence. The laws are in place for a reason.

Perhaps...but the law doesn't make you exceed the speed limit.

And it wasn't the speeding that got a lot of Victorian drivers in trouble either when the cameras were found to be incorrectly calibrated, some poor buggers lost their licence and their livelihood but got no compensation for the stuff up.

Sometimes "the law" is an Ass.
