"tanks" here---
A few days past and I posted this note on the forum but it has not appeared, so this is another posting.
My neighbours large dog wanders over to my front lawn and sits in the shade of a tree. The members who have visited THE BUNKER will know the dog I am talking about. He is a placid/timid/good natured dog and no trouble to me or "Mr. Russell". With the heat wave up here at the "DYSART BUNKER" area, I decided to put a 10 litre bucket of water under the tree so as he could have a drink when he is visiting.
I filled the bucket from the laundry trough and when I was carrying it down the passage way [ just near the kitchen/dining room] the bloody handle broke and the plastic split in half; dropping the 10 litres of water onto the carpet.
It caused mad panic and frantic action on my part to get towels to soak up the flood. "Mr.Russell" helped by sitting in the water for me so as it would not escape before I could mop it up with the towels. He though it was a great game and tried to help me with one of the towels, which resulted in me chasing him around the lounge room to recover the now wet towel.
I have now ordered another 3 plastic 10 litre buckets from Coles On-Line (90cents each) to be delivered on Monday. I will replace all of the existing buckets as they are several years old.
I used to have a few buckets filled with water, and ready for use in case of fire, when camped for a few days along the road.
On my inspection after the BUNKER flood; they are all very brittle even though they look ok, hence the replacement.
I have now used a 2 litre ice cream container under the tree for the dog to have a drink. I probably should have just given the dog a WEIS BAR to cool him down.
So Members----if you have plastic buckets in your travel kit do replace them before they fall apart.
Keith

Check your buckets
I'm now 87 years old, having experienced another birthday, and I'm still living in WA, single (gave up looking), white hair, no teeth, no money, no worries.
I plan to have another birthday next year.

Keith, et al.
Gal buckets for fire protection.
The plastic melts or goes soft in the hot wind.
Also, get the widest base possible and keep them out of the wind. The CFA bloke commented on how they blew over in the wind during the black Sat' fires. Even when full of water.

Cyclone that hit Magnetic Island when I was about 17 blew a full 2500 gallon rain water tank off its stand and last seen disappeared into the hills behind Nellie Bayjon_d wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2018 7:04 pm Keith, et al.

Re: Check your buckets
Thanks for the timely reminder Keith. The couple that I keep near the front and back tap fail every 6 months or so. Even the expensive plastic ones fail eventually. The gal ones last a bit longer but the bottom will rust out at some point, and then get turned into flower pots.
Cheers

Re: Check your buckets
The buckets from Whitworths are intended for use on yachts, and everyone knows that yachties — like Motorhomers — are all millionaires.Lance wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2018 11:21 pm 10lt stainless steel bucket.....$10

Hence they charge what the market will bear.
SIMPLE!
