Terry we live on a peninsula one road in & out, northern end of Central Coast but we are connect to Telstra Newcastle, Nords
Wharf exchange this appears to have always caused problems & Telstra technicians told us a few years ago we would be last to get NBN in the area.
Other folk have also warned us that it is not as good as expected & more expensive.

Shirley, if it's a bad as what we got across the lake, it aint worth waiting for. The slowest speed possible is the only speed that we can get, it is slower than the old adsl and most who have paid big bickies to get it are now complaining loud and long. So enjoy what you have now. :o :o :o

If you have phone issues with Telstra's copper network now, forget about getting anything useful from the NBN using the same copper cables. If you are out on a limited access peninsula then there is little hope of the fibre cable being run out there unless it is paid for, so maybe get the locals together and ask if they are interested and look at a price to connect all out there fibre to the premises as this would make the connection per household much cheaper yet actually work as originally planned.

Actually laying new cable up our street was suggested by a technician several years ago would be the only solution to fixing the problems, maybe an idea to speak to neighbours.
Deborah do you already have the NBN ?

Looking at the Boost data only sim to put into the Telstra dongle we already have, $20 for 8gb that lasts for 28 days, not sure just what the catches are at the moment like data roll over and what happens if the sim renewal isn't continuous, do you keep the sim and it just restarts when you pay the $$ or a new sim each time?

Terry setup a automatic recharge and you get 30 or 31 days credit as it recharges the same day every month, no roll over.

Yes Shirley, our town has the nbn connected. The residents who took up the offers are not happy, the old dial up was faster and cheaper. Telstra told us that we could buy any speed we want to pay for, but the only speed that they are able to deliver is the slowest one possible. I told them that I no longer wished to have a landline for the nuisance calls at dinnertime and then I bought a wifi dongle. It travels with us wherever we are, has had reasonable connections and costs are ok (well cheaper than nbn prices).
After the locals had been connected, they found out that if the town had worked together and requested the more expensive version (and paid of course) it would have been possible, but it can't be undone once installed. But who do you contact before the installers come in ??? and how on earth could you get some of the locals to agree to pay extra ??
Sorry to be such a gloomy gus, but that's how we see it. Good luck on your side of the lake, mate.
