Hearing aids have been getting tired, so about 6months ago, started researching.
The model I settled on was 13000.00 at the local hearing centre... not impressed.
Got the same model off Ebay, setup, for 3500.00 Will blow the savings on another cruise..
Pm if you want the seller details. Yes they are genuine. Manual in Korean, but the android app has the manual in english..

They only took 6 days to arrive. If I had been in Perth possibly would have been 4

Dad got his doctor to refer him to the University where they did a proper fitout with an unbiased recommendation.
then they did the full tune as a fraction of the retail price.

Before I turned 65 my aids cost me around $6500 and only lasted about 3 years but since turning 65 I have had the FREE ones under the Government scheme and believe me they are better than my previous ones. There are some advantages to getting older.

I sent a copy of my last audiogram. All set up to that. 4 programs for different situations, and individual volume control via my phone. Apple phones can stream direct to them. I have a small microphone coming that will act as an extra for other group situations.
They seem to be good to go, may visit an audiologist when back in perth to activate the tinnitis program

Re: Half past 2
Those who know me know in the past it wasn't necessary to talk behind my back, as long as I couldn't lip read what you were saying you could do it in front of me
Take out the hearing aids and I don't really have much of an idea just what is said one on one, just forget about it all together in a group, hearing aids in or out, then Margaret bought me new hearing aids.
My new aids were roughly $10,000, but they are brilliant. The longer I have them the more I learn about how to use them. They connect direct to the phone if I want, I hear the phone ringing in the hearing aid, press the button on top and it answers the phone and picks up my voice and sends it back to the other end, no need to actually touch the phone. Still mastering that one, some say it sounds like I'm talking in the toilet because of the strange sound, but not everyone seems to get that problem. The real problem is the looks you get having a one sided conversation with no sign you are on the phone
Much easier all round to put the phone against my ear.
The TV uses a device that sits beside the TV, you don't need to hang it around the neck like the older designs, and I've learnt how to adjust the ratio of TV to surround sound using the hearing aids themselves rather than requiring the phone app to do the adjustments, but there are all sorts of variations available using the phone app. The unit can be plugged into any headphone jack so music is another thing that previously required headphones that now can be fed directly into the hearing aids yet still hear a conversation if I want to, it can be tuned out
They are completely directional, so in a group I can hear the person I'm facing above all the other conversations, something only a deaf person could really appreciate because normal hearing aids just make everything louder.
Would I spend the $10,000 again, if I had it then most certainly yes, so far ahead of anything else I've had in the past there is just no comparison. Without the brilliant back-up tuning given by my audiologist through all 16 ranges through each ear to tune the aid to my hearing I doubt I would have the same result and as I get more accustomed to the new noises I haven't heard for over 20 yrs, the more adjustments that can be made to expand my hearing range so there isn't as much filtering of these sounds.
They can not replace natural hearing, unless you talk directly to any person with hearing loss your voice is just part of the background noise the brain filters out as unimportant so take no notice. All deaf people need to concentrate to fully understand just what is said, hearing aids just make it easier. Imagine how hard it would be to properly understand what was said if an E,B,C,D,V all sounded the same, then A,J,K and so one, every letter that sounds similar to any other letter and add in the accentuation, not sure if that is the correct term, but "A" or "a" as in again or apple and you can hopefully understand why concentration is so much more important to a deaf person. If they don't know you are talking to them then they can't concentrate of what you are says to get the meaning correct. I still get some funny looks when I repeat back what I thought was said and it wasn't even close

You on the oticons Terry?
Mine wont stream to and from the phone direct, only because android isnt up to it. The fruity stuff works though
I have a device coming yo get around that. Am only on day 2 of having these, been much easier to hear stuff today though. Tv is now down a number of notches. I know exactly what you mean about crowds. These are supposed to be a massive improvement. Will find out soon enough. Half the size of the old ones too.
Technology is marvellous..
