First Trip with our little old dog...

Charlie looks rather good for his age & health problems, Ticks are a real worry, here on the south coast nsw they are worse straight after rain & they also blow in with the wind. ticks we have here are black cattle tick & the dreaded white,

HOPE THIS HELPS I saw this advice on a TV show, spray the tick with Aero-Start & it will back out, seams pulling them out they can let go of more poison. I myself will be carrying some with me,

Heared that about pulling the tick out as well. Tweezers and the likes squash the inflated body and poison of the tick back into the dog creating further problems. Also sometimes the head remains embedded and the area becomes infected. The is a small V shaped tick remover available from vet supplies and on ebay I believe that you stick the V shaped foot of the remover under the tick and twist it as you remove it. They really get a grip into the flesh of the dog and are hard to pull away but this little removal thing does work well for any sized tick.

Keep away from cattle, they are covered in them and when we get a new herd across the river here that's when we seem to get problems. Also don't let them near scrubby bushy land, home for ticks.

Thanks everyone for your good advice on the ticks have taken it all on board, our daughter is a vet nurse at Melbourne Zoo so she is going to get some sound advice for us. and yes Glenda he is really good for his age vet said even thought he is 15 he is more like about 10 must be all the good human food we give him His main problem is the dementia as he gets under your feet and forgets to move out of your way also just dosn't seem to have much altertness these days..have to watch I don't fall over him..

Ros we travel with our 12 yo Boxer and have done for years. She is very sociable and gets on with anyone. She has her spot in the van and is quite at home. She loves the freedom camps along rivers and enjoys the bushwalks we go on. Keep the Advantix with you and check regularly for crawly things.
