K Pod campers

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

You've had plenty of time to play with the TD Craig, any progress reports for us ?
Where have you been, how has it performed, is it all you expected ?
Any downsides ?

All good Lance.
I started a house sit the same day I got back to Cairns and I have only just returned to where the kpod is. It towed really well with the jimny and it was very comfortable to sleep in. There are a few things that I will need to upgrade before I can take it into the gold fields. They are sat system and TV for when I'm roughing it out there. The current tv is analogue. Ext arial for phone and data. Replace undersized battery. Buy portable solar panels (happy for recommendations around 200 watt), this will allow me to park in the shade. Also a small inverter. I am looking at the Victron range but I am open to suggestions. It has a small battery charger but will increase that to a 20 amp multi stage. I'm sure I will find other things to do but that's it for now.

I saw on the news that one of the TD manufacturers has gone to the wall and left people high and dry, anyone here effected by this?

Not the k pod. They plan to manufacture 30 plus this year. Not bad for a small operation. I believe the gidget teardrop camper company are in receivership. They weren't cheap though. About $56000 for their new off road model.

That was 'Gidget' Terry.

Top $$ stuff those things and not in keeping with the TD character as far as I'm concerned.
Everybody has different wants and tastes so that's OK I s'pose. ;)

A few more pics of the "Escape Pod".

Battery, inverter 120mm cooling fan a digital thermostat install.

The "F" connector and mobile phone external aerial FME connector I had to make. I could buy a through wall f connector but not a through wall FME connector. I wanted something simple for connecting sat dish and mobile phone/modem aerial. Works a treat.

The square Khaki tent is the toilet & shower or the bedroom? Certainly packs up small enough but I think I'll stick with the Kombi 8-)
Is that a Jimny you are towing it with? Can they be flat towed?

No Terry, I didn't need to put up the shower/toilet tent as there was a couple on the property. It's another room. It's big enough to set up a bed if need be but I had the fridge and other bits and pieces in there. Also I need somewhere to get dressed. The bedroom is in the pod. It's about the size of a double bed. It can also be set up as a single bed on one side and a seated area with table on the other. It has a drop down tv and believe it or not it is very comfortable. Or maybe I was dead tired from digging holes all day  .
And yes the jimny tows it very well although fuel use goes up a bit.
