Amazon Kindle battery prob.

Post by Chuck »

Hopefully one of you will be able to assist with this problem.

I have an older, largish e-reader that has served me extremely well over the past 9 - 10 years. A few weeks ago I was given some books/novels from a friend & decided to rest my Kindle for a couple of weeks.

Unfortunately, when I went to use it again I found that I'd had the unit in sleep mode, not in the 'off' position. Consequently the battery was just about dead... although the 'sleep' mode picture was still on the screen, so a little bit of life still.

Promptly put it on charge & within an hour it was showing fully charged so commenced reading again... for about a couple of hours then turned it off until bed time where I normally read for about 30 odd minutes or so. Unfortunately, the battery indicator was showing almost depleted! Now this has never happened before... recharging normally gave me at least a couple of weeks before needing another charge.

So am thinking a new battery is required & had a good look at the unit & whist there is a seam around the side to separate screen from the base cover I've been unable to get them apart without doing damage.

On the back of the base there is a model # D00801 FCC ID: XDZ-1013 IC: 8666A-1013

Anyone know if the battery is replaceable & how to do it properly?

I'd give it a good long charge Chuck. Even when it says it's full I'd stop charging for 10 mins & put it back on the charger again. Do that a couple of times.
I'd be surprised if it'd be able to be changed easily. A bit like most GPS's too?
Maybe buy one of those battery packs? Better than tossing it?

PS. I noticed on Ebay you can buy the battery & there are Youtube videos showing procedure.

Thanks Bruce, about 2 mins after I posted this I remembered an old Uncle... Google... so gave him a yell & got the same info. Only problem was that once I got the cover off, the screws holding the battery in place are so small & been in there for so long I couldn't get them out - even using an old jewelers miniture screwdriver which fitted but I couldn't get any leverage on it.

So just got back from Battery World where they removed the old one, tested it - crap - so have ordered a new one, cupla days should do it.

Chuck,
Same thing happened to us.
SWMBO left her Kindle in the m/h for about 3 months. Battery utterly dead.
Put it on charger... after a week of 24/7 charging: not a sausage. :(
Kindle was given a private burial (recycle bin) and a new one purchased for a Christmas pressie. :P
My Kindle Fire — same age — is still going strong. I plug mine in every night & use it for a bedside clock.

My much loved Kindle suffered a cracked screen when accidentally left on the floor with bed clothes covering it. Does anyone know if the screen can be replaced at a reasonable cost? I read on the phone now but I much preferred reading on the Kindle

T1,
The short answer is “no.”
The long answer is a two-letter word beginning with “n.”
Guess what the second letter is? 😳
Hint: it reminds me of a basketball hoop, and occurs early in the name of the Tasmanian capital, but not at all in the capital of NSW. 😜

Bugga, got halfway through the video only to discover it is for replacing the glass outer, mine needs a new LCD display I think.

I have a 7'' Kindle for sale if your interested.
I set it back to Factory Settings last week as I use an ipad for reading these days ,

Ron

Ohh BTW
I have been offered a solar system/s from a house/s 1.2Kw ?
Anyone interested ?
The chappie is replacing a few smaller systems with the black panels, I think 200W 38V .
A MPT reg would set the voltage to 12 or 24 V
