Just got me one of these babies, no more instant coffee for me when a away from power to run Nespresso Pixie. It runs on hot water and air pressure supplies by in built pump. You can use the ESE Pods or ground coffee. It's really good.

This is my preferred option for the past 4 years!

And you get to use your own blend of coffee/coffees.

Yeah, had a look at them, saw one at Central Market Adelaide, just seemed like filter/coffee press which I thought was not what I was looking for.Chuck wrote:This is my preferred option for the past 4 years!

Time will tell if what I got was as good as I envisaged. First test was an expresso as I hoped for.

Russell
The question I want to ask is how good is the coffee but there is really no bench mark so the answer is hard and influenced by personal tastes. My usual coffee is a strong long black which I think is a more demanding product than one that uses milk.
I have been looking at the coffee making options for a while now and probably wasted too much time in the search.
As a start though how would you evaluate your new maker as compared to your Nespresso.
I have looked / considered the Presso, Aeropress, Handpressoand the Aldi machine so far without purchase. What I can't find is a shop / place where you can try any two of them at the same time. I just continue with a plunger or a stovetop model.

Re: For coffee lovers only
I quite commonly drink short blacks, no sugar, I go for the real taste of coffee, with a glass of water on the side for my kidneys.
Some times I have a latte with a stronger coffee shot.
I normally have Nespresso in my bus when I have 240v. using the arabica blend.
I've had one cup from Handpresso this morning and liked it.(short black)
The filter/plunger coffee machines and Italian bailetti machines leave me cold, weak and insipid or muddy, Nespresso and real expresso full of flavour and clean.
Like you said its a personal thing and I have great expectations of this new toy.

Re: For coffee lovers only
Ditto for most of your post Russell except the bits with milk.
There needs to be an activity at a forum meetup somewhere where different machines / methods can be trialed and some comparative info posted.
I could bring myself to spend $180 odd dollars for one in the Coaster but I would only want to do it once. Fortunately Pam hates coffee and so I only have to please myself. That should make it easier.

Re: For coffee lovers only
PandJ are you going to Whitfield for Easter? I will be there with an Aldi machine and Chuck will have his Aeropress and more than likely there will be others with different coffee makers. You could do a comparison then.

Re: For coffee lovers only
No Lesley, not this Easter. We are likely to be up at Blackbutt continuing the war on our Lantana plantation.
We have just come back from Christmas in Vic and so we are unlikley to venture down that way again for a while. I just had a look and Whitfield, looks like a nice spot though.
This topic comes up from time to time. The recommendations / critique / comparison of a small panel of 'experts' who could sample the products of different makers would be very helpful in narrowing the field.

Re: For coffee lovers only
PandJ, we had 10 acres of bush at Blackbutt for 20 years that we sold a few years ago. This was pre-caravan days and how we wish now we had held onto it as we battle to get the van into our yard in Brisbane.
It would be ironic if we ended up buying land up there now we are retired. Rapidly getting over living in a city.

Re: For coffee lovers only
Agree with what P&J said.
The taste of coffee is relevant to the individual consumer.
Having various machines/methods available to try each one would, I suggest, only work if the same exact coffee & strength/mix was used for each sample. A little difficult when utilising methods like Nespresso/Aldi machines & their respective pods.
But it still could be very interesting...
