uPVC windows and doors

Looking at installing uPVC double glazed windows and doors in our home reno. Just wondering if anyone has an opinion good or bad with them. Are they a good alternative to timber ? Just a bit worried if they would hold up to our heat in the riverland or could they warp as I suppose they are plastic based.

Do you have a link to the ones like you're thinking of John?
Both of our houseboats have had aluminium frames on windows & doors & I've been very concerned with the amount of heat and chill that is conducted into the inside with them.
Burn your arm in summer & feels icy in winter!!
Knowing your skills I'd reckon go with double glazed wood frames. You have little moisture/dampness to worry about .... unlike in Melbourne or even Ballarat!!

It is a company in Lonsdale, Was looking for timber frames and came across this site. Yes,we have aluminium now and they do transfer the outside conditions. Even with double glazing the frames would still transfer the temp. unless you go for the very expensive ones with the break fitted in the frame. A mate made his own timber frames and saved a lot of money but I will have to hurry up and build this house or I will be in an old folks home before it is finished. /www.doubleglazed.com

Yes. I had better sit down for the quote. Will need to submit plans for the new veranda and carport but the rest is only renovations. All help and expertise in building accepted. I will keep the beer cold and the BBQ hot.

My sister (in Melb) has all her house done with double glazing and wooden frames which are deemed better than the pvc / aluminium tends to attract condensation). She has had no issues at all and says the benefits with the power is fantastic. Yes it is costly ($40k whole house) but pay peanuts you get monkeys. Um her house would be approx. 10 times the size of the "new conversion"

Sounds like a plan, gathering can serve more than one purpose I reckon And it is all go go go.

We used PVC double glazed in our new extension about 5 years ago.
Best thing I ever did to the house.
I intend to do the rest of the house (eventually).

Not much help with the tolerance to heat, but they do keep the cold out.
