Night stop before Cradle Mountain

Post by Glenn »

We will be travelling south from Stanley down to Cradle Mountain and as we want to spend a whole day at the mountain we will have to camp the night and enter the park early the next day. We are planning on continuing south to Zehan or Queenstown after Cradle visit. Looking at Camps 6 I have found site 183 Waratah Camping Ground and site 184 Fossey River Rest area, can anyone give us any feedback on the two above mentioned stops or can you suggest a better option.

Thanks in advance.

Having been there a few days ago, I would recommend staying in the Hellyer Gorge. Approaching Cradle from the direction you have chosen is not ideal. Alternatively travel further South to Tullah and stay near Mackintosh Dam. Either way is a very short journey to Cradle.

Thanks for that Jon and Kay, we will check out Hellyer Gorge as that is the way we were going.

Thank you to Jon and Kay as we ended up staying at Hellyer Gorge (Site 185 Camps 6) which was a great spot with a track/walk that takes you down to the creek. I would recommend this spot for is space, views and there was not much traffic noise.

Thanks again.
