Where do you store it for travelling Dottie? It does sound good like a good idea, wood fueled or gas burners?Dot wrote:What about a full BBQ made with an old ?40kg gas bottle.A full length one with half grill & the other half plate?

I meant for home use and gas fired... OR should I keep it as is get it refilled and fill other bottles from it? (have the correct fitting to do this safely) AND much cheaper as well...

Oooo, I raised this idea of filling my 4.5kg bottles from my 9kg one on another forum which didn't go down very well.Dot wrote:... OR should I keep it as is get it refilled and fill other bottles from it? (have the correct fitting to do this safely) AND much cheaper as well...
To be fair, it probably isn't practical and I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Is it in date? You can do a quick TAFE course on LPG decanting and then you have ticket to do it legally.Dot wrote:I meant for home use and gas fired... OR should I keep it as is get it refilled and fill other bottles from it? (have the correct fitting to do this safely) AND much cheaper as well...

Wasn't meant like that Dottie
It just gives you a piece of paper to wave under the nose of anyone who wants to stick their nose in
or something like that. I have an LPG fitters licence so I can do gas decanting and much more, but i still get idiots trying to tell me what I'm doing is illegal

I'd rather make a BBQ out of the thing..

Re: Choofers
Here's one that I made some years ago and it's still going strong

Stainless steel top so you can cook the steak straight on top, put small pots on, or you can remove the top for larger pots.
The tags on the top take the same handles that I use for the Hillbilly oven.

Seen here with door open and ash pan a bit out. Bottom grate is visible through the door
Only slightly smaller (at 250x250x500 high) than the 9kg gas bottle ones and weighs less.

The sides are all hinged so that it folds up on itself.

And it all fits in an old Makita drill box.

Also have a fold up Aluminium and SS fire grate that is only a fraction of the weight of the steel ones.
