Sorry I'm a bit late. Been fighting to keep my driver's licence without having to bare all every 12 months!!!
OK this one is of a quarry that used to dig out granite mostly for railway lines.
Nice quiet parking/camping area too!!

It is a 'pit' but a bit off the roadside & in a nature reserve. (Conservation Park)
Quite likely to wake up & see a kangaroo or two out of your window.
