Hello all,
Another day, another forum ! Hopefully without the recycled mods shoving their own views down your throat as on others!
We have a couple of properties in Morayfield which is a suburb of Caboolture that may be able to assist with somewhere to stop for members travelling the Bruce.
The farm has room for a big rig (reverse in) on all weather hard standing that is level. Power and water available. (power bill is 50K a year so wouldn't notice a couple of MH sucking a bit.)
The house 600 mtrs away has asubdivided block with no house 3000 sqm so drive in and out, dunno about big rig in wet conditions though (hasn't rained here for 6 months) slight slope to that block.
If any use to members here may be able to arrange something, only in advance and by PM please.
Cheers
William

Hi William and welcome to the forum. Thought you were flat out running that farm and didn't have time for forums
Well, there's one recycled ADMIN from another forum but you'll have to suffer him
That is quite a generous offer of places to over night and I'm sure all will appreciate your offer as well as everyone’s offers of places to overnight. I'm quite surprised by just how well people are responding to the idea, not long ago on other forums you didn't see a response, must be the great group of people that are gathering here and I hope it stays that way.
Anyway, hope you like it here and want to stay.

Re: Parking Caboolture
Naw not that generous Terry. At the moment we are stuck in the biz and looks like being that way for some time. So it makes senes to us to utilise a patch of dirt thats doing nothing anyway.
So, as I said, if any use to passers, win win for all.
Busy time of year for us, although sales are down as they are for every business owner I speak to
I am starting to feel the GFC was just a warm up for what's coming !

Re: Parking Caboolture
Well house is getting near to sale point, probably another month will do it.
Then we will build a renter on the front block and move to our new estate in Stanthorpe for a bit.
We really like it up there (as long as we can escape in VP in the winter), so purchased 10 acres with a house a couple of days ago when we were up there on a wine buying trip. Starting to winkle out up to 20 YO reds as well as some amazing whites, as you become better known.
Plan is to put in a 1/2 acre of wine grapes, they are dormant in winter when we won't be there, and become gentlemen vignerons. While still enjoying the travelling life.
Plenty of room for those passing through, but probably won't settle until middle of January, she is a school teacher and wants to move after the school year is done.

Good on you William, If you can afford to do it , then why not! The area around Stanthorpe is a beautiful part of SE Qld. My wife is also a teacher and will also be rolling out of teaching duties at the end of the school year.
Cheers

Re: Parking Caboolture
Thanks David,
Yes after the sale of the business we can afford it, although the way the new owners are going, I recall the words by Kerry Packer, "you only get one Alan Bond in your life and I have had mine" I am sure we could buy it back for very little somewhere in the future but there is less than zero interest in that.
Any of you that like a good red, watch out for a newer variety called Sagrantino, after coming across it last trip we will certainly be adding a few of these vines to our mix. In fact I doubt there will be much of the older varieties in the mix.

Re: Parking Caboolture
William,
I hope the variety can handle the hot temps.
After a quick trip around Tassie, I was amazed by the number of vines being planted in Tassie. I've heard a lot are relocating there because of climate change..... but didn't realise how many until the other week.

Re: Parking Caboolture
There are 64 vineyards around Stanthorpe now Jon, my sis farms in Tassie so I have some small idea of what is going on down there. You are right, it is lots. I seem to remember just a few years ago vines were being pulled because of a sea of unsold wine, seems we have short memories ?
We have NO interest in being commercial vignerons, we have done enough hard work for this and next lifetime.
About 1/2 an acre of some alternative varieties (they call them strangebirds here) will do us, keep us off the streets when not travelling. A lot of the skills from 28 years of very successful commercial hydroponics will easily transfer to a hobby vineyard so it should be fun. I guess we are trying to have our cake and drink it too, dunno how that will work, time will tell.

Re: Parking Caboolture
William, that's great news. I hope that your new adventure is very pleasurable and running a small vineyard sounds like a perfect way to retire from all of your big hydro gardens.
