13 pin euro trailer socket issue.

Post by Kappy »

Not sure where this belongs or even if it does.

But welcome some guru guidance.

Just acquired a 2008 BMW X5 SD 3.0l that came fitted with genuine BMW towbar and 13 pin euro socket.

I obtained a 13 pin euro to 7 pin flat adapter to use on my trailer.

On connecting all indicators and tail light seem to flicker even with key removed.

Have no experience with 13 pin stuff and don't really want to butcher the socket.

Guidance appreciated.

Cheers

Are some lights globes and others LED's if so you may need Resisters in the line.

All trailer lights are LED, seems as there is around 11 volts at the socket even with key removed???

I stumble across something on another site

They used 5 x 15 ohm, 10W wire wound ceramic resistors

Is that the sort of thing I need?

Some of the latest vehicles have a built in warning if just one turning light stops working and if the circuit is using more current than it should it reports a fault too.
Connecting a trailer can report that fault.
I think the Ivecos among others do that.
To overcome it they use relays to power the trailer/caravan.
