The Patrol need new shoes , so went hunting around.
Ended up at TyrePower at Parafield here in S.A.
Got Kumho Road Venture A/T for $214 each fitted. Kmart wanted $248 for the same tyre , others where in between . Most said they would order them in. TyrePower has them in stock and would do them straight away. These tyres are 70% road ,30% off road
Also got a wheel Alighnment for $39.So all up $895
So a lot of money for a poor old pensioner lol. But money well spent
Hadn't even gone 10 yards and I could tell the difference. Felt like power steering , lol. Also no road noise. Not that my old tyres had road noise . But was told these wouldn't have any. Otherwise they would have gone strait back lol

I also insist on new tyres, not new ones that have been sitting on the shelf for a year or two. The following link explains how to check how old the tyres are.

Not familiar with the latest tyres but it was a well known fact that if you fitted green truck tyres, did 2,000 km or so, put them in a dark room for 12 months & then put them to serious use you'd get almost double the KM out of them.

Never heard or tried it, but anything is possible.admin wrote:Not familiar with the latest tyres but it was a well known fact that if you fitted green truck tyres, did 2,000 km or so, put them in a dark room for 12 months & then put them to serious use you'd get almost double the KM out of them.

I only bought two new tyres at a time, just steer tyres and changed them over to the trailers when 3/4 worn, then recapped them a couple of times.

Not much real rubber in tyres these days so they don't harden up much. When I was courier driving around 30 yrs ago we would throw the tyres on the shed roof for a few mths, then fit them, got a great wear life out of them, they were a tad dicey in the wet though.

Always a compromise Terry, I used TOYO tyres on my Navara and did around 100,000klm a year, always got new ones fitted over the Xmas break.T1 Terry wrote:Not much real rubber in tyres these days so they don't harden up much. I also tried Michelin for a while and got about 50/60,000klm from a set.
The difference was the Michelins hung (slightly) better , but the TOYOs were not very far behind, just a case of driving to the conditions.

Fortunately, when we bought our current cruiser, the previous owner had just put new tyres on it - unfortunately they are those Dunlop road tyres.
They will have to do for a while.
