similar apprentice nightmare, welding in a steel tugboat. Hot and sweaty, everything is earthed, tight and cramped. Couldnt even change a rod without getting a tingle

Similar to that is welding the mast lift ram pivot plate on a drilling rig with an Onan motor welder going flat out in the rain.
No matter how much you tried the weld was very shaky as you copped the first contact.
