The crack is in the trailing edge (which in the diagram is the upper edge) on the right of the diagram, near the block whatsit sitting on top with the U-bracket poking out.

BTW, that's US Dollars... and the assorted parts required for the refit more than doubled the cost.
And then there's freight...
"tanks" here---Lucky that you are super rich and will have all of the tax dollars to pay for the parts, the freight and repairs. Wait 'till you get the bill for the labour.
Don't forget to thank Mr Morrison for the contribution.

I'm now 87 years old, having experienced another birthday, and I'm still living in WA, single (gave up looking), white hair, no teeth, no money, no worries.
I plan to have another birthday next year.

The block whatsit is a rubber bump stop. If the crack is inboard of that bump stop it means the vehicle was applying excessive downward pressure, the bump stop had prevented further suspension travel and the lower control arm gave way. This would require quite a bit of downward force on that corner of the vehicle.
If the crack is outboard of the bump stop, the wheel was still applying pressure when the bump stop prevented further suspension travel and the lower control arm gave way. That would require a sudden upward force creating more travel than the suspension could cope with, bottoming out the bump stop, yet the upward force was still being applied at pressure sufficient to make the control arm give way. One would think that such a massive pothole would have burst the tyre and buckled the rim ........

I still reckon the airbag is the cause.

Probably is Jon but I guess no one knows the past early history of the vehicle.
Maybe it went off the side of the road & hit a culvert?
All Ray can do is give the unit a good look over & fix it so lifestyle will get back on track?
At least he'll get to watch Maggie & friends grow up!! lol.

Jon, et al:
Previous owner had run the airbags at 60psi, and we've followed his recommendation for the last 10 years. No idea what the original purchaser had run, but the crack couldn't have been there since first owners...
I favour Bruce's theory: snigged down too tightly on its trip across the Nullarbor behind the Indian Pacific.

T1:
The crack is inboard of the bump-stop block.

Tanks:

Thanks to this 'hiccup', we have to kiss goodbye to the plan to go to China for SWMBO's birthday this year.

While waiting for Girt's parts to arrive, we've decided on an alternative to the China Plan. :?
Alternative plan is to head for Qld... Bundaberg... Or precisely, Elliott Beach CP.
House-sitters booked to see to the needs of The Hounds... and incidentally look after the abode.
We've booked a cabin by the beach for a coupla weeks, and CP cabins along the way for the northbound leg.
So far, we've decided to wing it on the southbound leg.
As we'll be driving Supercar, not Girt, our daily range goes from 300km to 500km, so we can stay a coupla days in each town en route.
The difference between Girt's 5km/litre and Supercar's 18+km/litre means paying for cabins rather than free-camping will cost about the same overall.

 WHY do my pix flip 180 degrees, Bruce?
... and replacing it with a pic flipped 180deg then saved doesn't work. :?

Yep, that fixed it.
Ray being an ex-newspaper man you should realise that if the writing is upside down you turn it around 180 degrees!!!
haha .... sorry, I couldn't resist!
What happens if you turn the camera 180 before you click it? Does it still do it?

Read through this?
