After our recent trip south, we discovered a new noise. It sounded like the bathroom floor was falling out but after a while I realised it was just the tow hitch yawing in the towbar throat. While I was rolling around in the dirt at a roadside stop I noticed that there was only about 1/2 inch of rear suspension travel before it sat on bump stops and that the front tyres had developed a strange wear pattern.
When we got home I took it to the weighbridge and found that front axle weight is right on the max 3100kg and the rear was 6800kg.
So we have spent a bit of time removing stuff that we probably really don't need trying to figure out how to move some heavy stuff like batteries etc to get more weight over the rear and less over the front.
Tomorrow the Alpine is off to the truck suspension gurus to get some springs replaced and hopefully it will ride a bit better. And maybe a bit less of a chore to drive.

Re: What did you do to your rig today?
Just out of interest can you tell us/me the max weight stamped on those tyres for single or/& double David?
Nearly 7 tonne is plenty on the rear as well I'd reckon?
What size tyres? I guess it depends if 15", 17" or 19.5"?
It is very difficult to get steel radials to wear evenly on the steer.
Regular rotation & flipping on the rims pays off although it's time consuming.
I got two spare 10 tonne jacks to help?
5-10,000 km on the rear before putting them on the steer also helps harden them up a lot.

Bruce - They are Michelin XZE 225/70 R 19.5 1650 single @95 psi 1550 dual@ 95 psi.BruceS wrote: ↑Wed Jun 05, 2019 2:51 pm Just out of interest can you tell us/me the max weight stamped on those tyres for single or/& double David?

I think that I have caused half my problem because I have only been running 75 psi in them, as I knew my total weight but not the end/end. Going by the Michelin website the front is under inflated as I have under estimated the front end weight.
I would say they guy I bought the Winny off has had the same issue as all the tyres show a bit of wear to the outside edges, I reckon he was doing rotations to try to fix the problem.
I just wish that I had done and end and end a lot earlier.
According to the Michelin website XZE type tyres are designed just for drives. I reckon that when all the springworks are finished I will have to get a pair of what they suggest as steer tyres.
The GVM for the truck is 8500 kg and like most motorhomes is right on the limit most of the time.
Cheers

Re: What did you do to your rig today?
Dave, you say the GVM is 8500 but when you add the front(3100) and rear(6800) weights they add up to 9900, a little over the GVM.

Maybe he still hadn't unloaded the Rutherglen Durif at that stage?

Re: What did you do to your rig today?
George,
The max for the front axle is 3100 kg, and the max for the rear is 6800 kg, according to the build plate BUT the GVM is 8500 according to the VIN plate. The highway Patrol only ever want to know the GVM and the nice scale man only wants axle weights. I do my best to avoid talking to either of those groups. It costs too much!!!
Edit! After rereading my post. The front actual is just on 3200kg and the rear actual is 4800kg.
Bruce/Ray,
Yes, some of those Rutherglen Reds taste pretty good, but they put stuff in them that makes me feel a bit unsteady on my feet.
So I try to stay of social media when my feet are wobbly. doesn't always work though.

Dave, I thought you said that the weights, 3100 and 6800, were the weights when you put it over the scales.
