Ray I had the salesman at Hardly Normal try his hardest to sell me that 'extra' subscription to Office 365 or whatever the onlineversion in the cloud is called.
I refused ' started telling him I can get the free version from the internet from another company that will open, alter & save all of the Office documents & suddenly he had an ordinary copy of Office that uses the activation number like bygoneyears.
He reduced the price to half so Ibought it anyway.
No cloud for me.

Another good one is Only Office
We install Libre in our Windows 11 computers here at Muscateers, and Only Office in the Linux systems .

T1,
It’s a Microsoft decision — not Apple — to restrict iPads to the subscription version.
Probably a financial decision base of the fact the person was willing to spend that much on an Apple product, they would be willing to pay big $$ for a Microsoft product to use on their Apple product Doesn't Apple have a superior product available for their machines only?

Can't understand why people don't switch to linux, free state of the art software, no need to change your computer because microsoft and apple make you. Picked up an old small box computer for free, has 500meg of ram and a 2 gig HDD, so not much to work with. So loaded 32 bit sparky linux on it and it flies, don't know what I'll do with it, but it works really well and you tube videos function fully with no slowness or drop outs
I watch youtube all the time, never see an advert, same 0n my system never have ads. You can buy linux phones now even though android and apple are uinix/linux systems, zero cost with linux and extremely stable and ultra safe. My music studio is all linux free software and superior to both apple and windows systems, instant updates and you can choose when and what you want to update, it's called freedom. Most linux systems use flatpak which sandboxes everything, so no one can get into your system and along with the almost unbreakable linux you never have to worry about your data, security, stability or safety. I also would never use the cloud, just asking for trouble and lose of data.
I have a pine phone which is a dedicated linux ph and its completely compatible with my desktop and laptop, no google no proprietary software and except for the price of the ph, all free. Can run many of my desktop software on the pine ph so it's just like a mini computer that makes ph calls and runs signal.
Even flight gear a state of the art flight system is free and my system has 32G ram to run it perfectly on a 55 inch TV screen. I'm learning instrument and twin engine flying at the moment, great fun and good for passing the time of day when weather is bad and feeling lazy. Much better to crash and burn online rather than in the real world and flying into major airports is pretty exciting when there's dozens of planes in the flight zone.
