I appreciate it was in the jokes section and therefore has a disclaimer.
I have 2 points.
1. If our society is going to stop violence, the societal change needs to start somewhere and it needs to have a zero acceptance.
2. Jokes contribute to acceptance, because it's trying to create a story which amuses the receiver though their acceptance of seeing the funny side of the situation being described.

Re: Info for you older men.
I appreciate your sincerity with regard to violence Jon, but I don't hold the view that zero tolerance to fun and humor in any way equates preventing violence. Sensuality and sexuality should be equally humorous and serious - for both sexes. I find it appalling that journalists who were always the last bastion of free speech, and particularly the modern female opinion column writers, seem determined to de-sex society and women in particular. A substantial difference between a Christian, Western, atheist or many other liberal societies - call them what you may - and Islam, is the way we hold women up on a pedestal insofar as we acknowledge their beauty and appeal and their value in a roughly equal environment. Far from perfect we may be but we do not subjugate and deride them, nor force them to cover up and hold their tongue. Do we want to be like hard line Islam or do we want freedom for women. Freedom carries the baggage of free speech. Let's not deny it.
Not a personal affront to you, Jon. Just my point of view.

Re: Info for you older men.
Mick & Patrick were walking down a street in Dublin when they passed a timber yard.
On the gate was a sign, "Tree Fellers wanted."
Mick turned to Pat & said, "If Sean wus wid us, we'da got them jobs."
There, Jim/Jon/anyone else
It's a joke...
Have a go at that one for PC content!
(An' I can tell jokes like that one, 'cos I got Oirish ancestors!)

100% spot on. But some don't see it this way.jon_d wrote:I appreciate it was in the jokes section and therefore has a disclaimer.

Denigrating folk who can't spell/pronounce properly? Not giving Maureen the opportunity? Destroying the environment?

And you have shown that there can be humour in jokes without the hint of any violence/assault/etc.Greynomad wrote:Mick & Patrick were walking down a street in Dublin when they passed a timber yard.

I am glad to see that you don't do this sort of "name calling" elsewhere, David.supersparky wrote:Gee Dot, Lucky you didn't say 'F**k'.
That might have seriously offended some people reading the Jokes section of the Forum.

Re: Info for you older men.
Steve,
Thank-you.
A small point of clarification because I chose my words very carefully.
I wrote acceptance and not tolerance. Zero Tolerance is bandied about in the law and order area and I purposely choose to avoid that word. Acceptance implies it's up to us to set the standard.
