Toyota Coaster Wheel rims

We have an imported 1988 Coaster Ex, auto and 12HT engine. The owners manual says it has 16" rims where as it is fitted with 17" rims and 2 different size tyres. Front....215/75R/17.5 and rear.....205/80R/17.5LT which is a little confusing. Does anyone else have similar rims and tyres and what are the advantages if any? Also the speedo reads 10 kph slow at 100 kph by the GPS.
Any info would be appreciated also any recommendations on tyre brands etc. Thanks.......James

Welcome to the forum James. I had to figure out how to move the post to the bit is was supposed to be in but all done now.
Sorry, I don't have an answer to your question but Coasters are very popular so I'm sure someone here will know.
The tyre sizes as far as the 205 and 215 are not critical, it mostly the width of the tread difference, maybe be fractionally higher profile but that's usually the last number like 70 or some thing. re reading the post, the 75R and 80R relate to the hieght of the sidewalls I think, tyres aren't my area of specialty I'm afraid, so someone will probably correct me if I got it wrong.

G'Day James and welcome. Check in with a tyre dealer to make sure your sizes are readily available and will be into the near future. Tyre world seems to be going through changes these days and a some sizes are no longer popular and becoming scarce. Don't know the situation with yours but have a check.

Coaster wheels are usually 16in, Maybe the bigger size is to compensate for the differential. Could be a city diff and not the highway one...

Almost certainly the 17" ones were put on for a bit of extra speed.
Have you done any hilly work yet? Go OK?
What is your cruising speed without it screaming it's head off? (By GPS?)
The LT stands for Light Truck and would be at least 10 ply & anything up to 16ply.
Most conversions are reasonably heavy on the steer so I'd suggest firstly weighing front & back in loaded condition & reconsidering the choice of tyres.
I'd be looking at using LT on the front as well.
Brand is debatable but looking around truck stops will show you Bridgestone is No 1 at present & they have a distribution of outlets across the country.

Hi.
most coaster run 16'' rim the tyre size are 650.00,700.00,750.00,
the orignial tyre on our coaster was 650 the diff seen had better days,
so we had to change it all we could get was a 6.00 diff but we needed a 5.8 one,
so we put on 750.00 tyre that help a lot.

I believe that the larger size 700 was specifically for the LWB while the smaller 650 is for the SWB which I have. However, you may benefit fitting the 700 as that size may give longer wear and more importantly, be more readily available especially in remote locations. This is a problem that I experienced when travelling, so I will be fitting 700 next time. As for brands, I've heard that those who fit Michelin are pleased with that choice.

Another point I strongly recommend you rectify is mismatched tyre sizes. Having the same size all round means that your spare will work at all six locations. You really do NOT want different sizes on a dual or they will duel with each other.
