Question for our resident sparkie,,, We have one of those new long life light bulbs in the kitchen, the other night I came out and noticed it was doing a "flicker" (It was not turned on) so we replaced the bulb with another.. Thing is this one is doing the exact thing Is there something wrong with the bulbs or the house wiring???

Any sign of ants in the switch Dot?
I've known enough of them to get fried & conduct enough current to create a small light.
Think I'll leave the answer to the sparkies.
How many watt is the globe?
Is it a desk light or in the ceiling?

Replace the light switch and see if that solves the problem.

Hi Dot
Whn you say flickering ,I believe yuo mean it is giving a FAINT flickering glow ??
Has this just started .?
How long have you had that TYPE in that light?
Spent ages today going through all the Coles small bayonet globes and EVERYONE of them sez "Not suitable for dimmer".
Hummmph!
Why? Cause those so called "green" globes flicker when used with a dimmers control. Don't use the dimmer, so the solution is to change the switch to a standard one.
Experience is a wonderful thing. It helps you recognise a mistake when repeated.

Peter,
More like a quick flashing. (G said that) Don't know for sure how long it has been doing it because that is the last one I turn off on my way to bed. Have been using that type for over 12 mths now.. (screw in curly bulb)
G will be turning the power OFF and having a look for ants etc tomorrow..
Brad. No dimmer switches here..

We have one out of five in our house that flashes every now and then, sparky said that it is a known occurence, but didn't know how to fix it?
One out of two that I installled in my mothers house glows faintly, only visible at night, seems to be common?
"tanks" here---
Dot, I have these bulbs in my house and they do the same. I had the sparkie call and he said that they do this flicker/flash thing but is no cause for alarm.
Just ignore it -or close your eyes.
I also asked him why my fluro light hums when turned on -- his reply was:-- "perhaps it does'nt know the words" but it has the right tune.
He is a bit of a charactor but he does'nt joke about his prices for a call-out.

I plan to have another birthday next year.
