Well the navigator recently sourced a new windup torch with inbuilt batteries.
It has off/oneLED/off 3LED's/off/etc
I love them although I really did want one that was windup as well as a small solar panel/charger.
The last windup one died an instant death because of my mistake.
There is no warning to turn off the torch when winding (charging).
Apparently winding while on exceeds the safe voltage & results in no more light!!! (no pretty smoke either?)
So...... WARNING!!! Turn off whilst charging!!

Re: wind up torch
There were all sorts of these things on the market a while back, squeeze trigger ones, shake up ones with a ferrite core and windings that you gave a few quick shakes and it charged up the batteries
all a complete con, they just had a stack of wafer thin primary cell batteries inside, when they went flat, the light went out, no matter how much you squeezed the trigger or shock the thing you couldn't recharge it, a few rapid trigger squeezes would get a short burst of light, but you can't recharge primary batteries

Re: wind up torch
Our wind-up torch is still recharging after 6+ years.
4 white LEDs switchable for 2 or 4, and a central red LED with connected siren (!).
Has been left 2 months in Girt, dead as the proverbial Dodo; wind for one minute, and get 15 minutes' illumination. Wind 5 minutes and it's 30+ minutes.
Cost me $5 from a Mitre 10 bargin bin.
