Might be an idea to chat with some of the professional drivers that are around here....like maybe some of the friendly truckies?
They would have more experience than most of us combined.

One important thing is to keep the low beam to less than 50w, otherwise the on coming traffic thinks you are still on high beam and flash you, it becomes very hard on the eyes and quite dangerous as you then have to flash them back and momentarily blind them, just so they know you are on low beam, then hope they don't either run into you or off the road because they can't see. There were halogen bulbs rated at 90/140 on the market for a while, caused a lot of accidents, there are still 90/130 on the market, they are just as bad.
Retro fitting the new HID xenon headlight globes is actually illegal, the vehicle must have auto levelling lights to use these bulbs as a rise even over a speed hump blinds on coming drivers and those you are approaching from behind without the auto tilt lights system.
Hella make good retro fit semi seal headlight replacements and the 45/75 H4 halogen bulbs work well, there are blue tint ones that give the effect of a cleaner brighter light as well, but I don't know that they actually make driving at night any easier, the brighter the lights, the more dazzled the roo is when he stops in the middle of the road, he won’t move until he can see clearly again.

Have you actually driven with the so called 'white lights' or just considering changing to them ?

Personally, I detest them.

Had a BMW motor bike with an after market globe put in & I nearly ran off the road one night!!

Wouldn't have them if I was paid to... but that's just me, others might agree with you.

For the very occasional times and distances you drive at night or in pouring rain, sleet, hail why bother? I wouldn't. :D

Nini & Wayne can you tell us what lights you already have please?
Most older vehicles have either one light each side or 2 each side.
Quite often the single are 7" and the twin are 51/4" from memory?
Maybe a photo of the front may give some ideas.

Bugga, they were available for quite a while too. Maybe the 55/60 in the outers and the 90 or 120w in the inner high beam only ones.
the rctangular semi sealbeam by hella were available but maybe not now either.
