Insurance following suspension modification

Post by JCT »

My motorhome is comprehensively insured with CIL through the WRVC and before changing the Fiat Ducato suspension to King Springs I enquired with the insurance company to confirm the improvement would be acceptable. The following was the reply.

“The changes that the client is considering are fine with us, just email us when it has been fitted and we will note it on the policy as a body modification. Also at the time, let us know if the client would like to increase the sum insured of the motorhome to cover the cost, or just to leave as is and make a note of the changes only.

If you have made any changes to the suspension it may be advisable to inform your insurance company if you have not already done so.
Better to be safe than sorry, it would be a pity if any claim was refused because of an unauthorised alteration.

The third party insurance which is with QBC resulted in the following reply.

'I have received your request for assistance with your CTP. This modification will have no affect on your Compulsory Third Party as it is a Government Regulated Policy, compulsory for all road registered vehicles.'

Really good idea to notify them of any changes made no matter how small. They can and will in the event of an accident refuse a claim when it suits them. They don't cover you out of the goodness of their heart. Speaking of which I need to do that myself.... thanks for the reminder.

I do it each time an alteration is made. Found CIL to be very good. Just got to wait and see the reaction when I finally get the ATM and the suspension lifted. The speed at which Camec are supplying the new door my grand-kids will be on a pension. But we do have visiting rights at the repairer.

Called CIL with the latest round of mods/additions. No issues, although the girl could not differentiate between raising the van and raising the ATM. Once the solar panels were listed, the next thing to go up was the premium. All is good though.
