As I said at that other place nothing new. The media drag it up on a slow day, that is not to say it all valid comment.

Peter
Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Peter, I think what the other Peter was trying to say was, that the media rehash news from time to time. I'm fairly sure that he, like myself, didn't realise until I re-read your link that it was from June 2012 and you were reposting it as an advisory to all of us.
Cheers

I don't mind this 'rehashing' that goes on all over the Internet of regulations & standards but I'm pretty sure the majority of it (in particular Collyn's info) is more aimed at the manufacturing industry than the owner of some vehicle.
I reckon perhaps the topic of this forum could/should have the word (LEGALLY) in brackets after it?

Hi Super sparky
YES ,that & to NEW readers. ;) :)
And in particular to those forums which do not have a header /sticky making the point that most Gas work & ALL 240v [or any above 50V AC &110V RIPPLE FREE DC] is regulated work & REQUIRES A LICENSED person to carry it out!!!

HI Bruce
Collyns article on transformer & some other subjects have been in the CMCA magazine "The Wanderer "
& an online FREE magazine " I Motor Home"
In both cases it was aimed at end purchasers who believed they had aquired a fully compliant [to Aus Standards ]unit
& pointing out to them the possible problems they could have if trying to sell such units .

If you wish to add legally at the end ,I have no objections :)

My point is that these warnings have been going around for 40 years to my knowledge and still we have incidents.
The Media had nothing to do with it
If the media had nothing to do with it. What may I ask is Domain.com.au

It was posted for information of those who often ask for details ,& for those who may be considering doing such work :D
At no point did I infer or say that it was not a good post, it was/is informative. But it does only go to a narrow base. Maybe if the power supply companies reinforced the point with inserts along with the bills.

OK, even I have had my say so I think we'll close this topic now?
Not one person would EVER do any electrical work (or plumbing) themselves if the charges were half reasonable & responded in a timely fashion. (in my opinion)
I have a friend here who has just re-taken possession of his Motel & urgently needs some electrical & plumbing work done due to leasee running facilities down.
Waiting, waiting, waiting ................
